Chapter 1: Every Day a Little Death

Notes:

“And everyday shuffles
by like the day before
On its way to the blackest of skies
And everyday a little death
comes and paces the floor
And a little bit more of me dies

Another day, another week

Another month, another year
Another night I spend alone
Until it’s day again

Our little star has moved away

And all the world is a blur
I only see I am not me
Without her“

Chapter Text

A loud crack echoed throughout the scorched landscape as time distorted in the center of what was once a town square. Ruined skyscrapers framed the clearing, standing tall and ragged, glass long broken and offices long abandoned. The ground coated in a thick suffocating layer of ash and broken glass, upon which crashed down a pale coated hedgehog.
Silver the hedgehog groaned softly hands instinctively going to his head, muscles burning with the familiar tingling of time travel.

Ah yes… time travel. Something he had grown far too familiar with these past weeks.

It started off simple enough, First being told by Mep-Iblis- whoever- that he could save his future just by killing a certain blue hedgehog, of course he foolishly accepted, it was for the greater good right? Wrong.

Turns out his mysterious, extremely convenient, source of information was a liar and wanted him to destroy that worlds only hope for a future. Mephiles was in fact half of the sun god Solaris, the other half being Iblis himself. He had been working for Iblis this entire time-

But they were able to fix it, He knew Iblis could be sealed away he had seen it happen with his own eyes. Thus he and Blaze had traveled back to their time and blaze… sacrificed… she…

He grit his teeth fingers digging into the ashy ground, suddenly much too warm, he would rather not think about that day right now.
Then, to make things even worse, he didn’t even have time to process what had just happened, right as Blaze vanished he was violently ripped through time once more to fight the god Solaris at his full power.
Somehow, against all odds he and the other two hedgehogs were able to destroy Solaris, finally beating Iblis for good.

As he finished this thought Silver sat up with a jolt. Wait... if they defeated Solaris in the past, that meant that Iblis couldn’t have existed now... and if Iblis never existed that meant Blaze never sacrificed herself to seal him away. So that meant she was still here right? Right?!...

In a rush of adrenaline and desperation he leapt to his feet, forgetting entirely about the time travel pain. His body was quick to remind him of his mistake however.

He stumbled forward, lunging forward to steady himself against a nearby piece of rubble as he hunched over from a rush of nausea and dizziness. His legs shook, threatening to give out but he couldn’t rest, he couldn’t stay down. No, he had to help her.

Oh she must be so confused. But she was back... she was back.. He pushed forward, eyes frantically scanning around as the glass crunched under his feet.

But if Iblis never came, why was his damage still here?

He forced down the thought. No, Blaze was alive, she had to be! and he had to find her, he had to help her.

“Blaze?...” He called out. Rasped voice echoing painfully loud in contrast to the deathly silence that seemed to swallow him whole.

No response echoed back.

The sky was still a clear cloudless blue, just like it was right after she vanished.

He took a few more steps forward, throat constricting in terror and fists clenching at his sides.

”BLAZE!” The cry came out stilted unnaturally, a guttural scream of desperation.

Nothing.

She was gone wasn’t she?
No
Nonono-
But we saved the world didn’t we?
We fixed everything didn’t we?
Iblis wasn’t supposed to exist...
In Sonics timeline maybe...

He whimpered collapsing to the ground, glass shards digging into his legs and palms as he hunched over. “I can’t- I can’t do this without her...” he choked out, he could feel the start of tears building in his eyes, he didn’t bother fighting it.

“Blaze I’m so sorry...”
