Work Text:

“Do you have any further questions, Aether?” Zhongli questioned after he finished answering yet another question from the blond traveller and from Paimon as well. They shook their heads, wished the both of you well, and left after a few more words. At their departure, Zhongli — rather, Morax — turned his attention to you whom stared at the view in front of you before taking one of your hands that rested on the stone balcony.

“Are you alright, my dearest Y/N?” He asked, his neutral, calm features contorting into concern for you as he saw the tears in the corners of your eyes, avoiding to let them fall.

“I… can’t really join you, can’t I?” At the end of your sentence he had wiped away a stray tear on your cheek and because of the realization, you quickly wiped your face for any more tears — which there weren’t — and quickly apologized, “I’m so sorry it’s just all so sudden.”

“Y/N…” He wrapped his arms around you, forcing you to rest your face against his chest. “I am deeply sorry for not letting you know any time earlier before all this.” You tried to tell him it wasn’t his fault but was quickly hushed as he “shh”-ed you softly then gently running his free hand’s fingers in your hair.

“But to be honest…” You started, and at this Zhongli focused his hearing only to your voice. “I’m very happy to see you look so free.” He slightly pulled away and asked you what you meant, only for you to giggle at his reaction and detach your arms around his form to cup his face before placing a small, sweet kiss upon his lips.

“You look so free.” You repeated, rubbing your thumb on his face and would brush away stray strands of his hair away from his face albeit having wind blow his hair again. “No matter what I would attempt to do, you always looked so burdened even since thousands of years ago. I’m not mad at you for it because, I understand why. So seeing you, the love of my life, feel and look very light as feather as you were many, many thousands of years ago, it makes me extremely happy for you.”

“… You’re not upset?” He questioned, and you didn’t miss the feeling of his hands wrapping tighter around you. Whether because he was feeling nervous or surprisedly happy, or both, you wouldn’t know right now because all you could focus on was how relaxed he still seemed that it made you glad.

You moved your arms to wrap it, this time, around his neck to pull him a bit closer to press your forehead against his and closed your eyes in relaxation; the wind blowing and passing the both of you. “How and why should I be mad at you, seeing how happy you really are?” You opened your eyes and saw how he had widened his own pair, you smiled lovingly at him. “Serving as one of your first adepti and lover, I have only wished to see you smile as you did many years ago. And, I’m glad I witnessed it again earlier as you talked to Aether and Paimon.”

Your name left his lips in a whisper full of adoration and appreciation for you before he cupped your face with one of his hands, using his other to pull you more closer to him, watching your eyes slowly flutter close and feeling your arms wrapping tighter around his neck to pull him closer as he tilted his head before leaning down then pressing his lips softly against your own in a loving chaste kiss; his eyes half-lidded before shutting completely to savour the lovely flutter in his chest that he would always feel whenever with you or even just by having thought of you.

As both of your lips molded lovingly against each other, somehow the both of you thought about the different experiences you’ve shared with one another. From your first meeting where he mysteriously fell in love for you as he watched you fight alongside him, to when you first exchanged words, to when you first held hands, to when he had confessed his blooming feelings for you, to when the first time you’ve kissed, to the first time you and him were intimate in the bedroom, to your everyday lives together up until now as you shared a kiss.

The first one whose eyes fluttered open was yours, a wide smile adoring your face as you pressed kisses, this time a few pecks around his face, in which he chuckled at before keeping you in his arms and rubbing his cheek against your hair. “Will you stay with me until then?”

“Of course, Morax. I would love to.”
