oh to kiss your pretty annoying face

Summary:

Jin Zixuan doesn’t understand what’s going on with Wei Wuxian. Not like he cares or anything but the unusual silence on Wei Wuxian’s part makes him second guess himself every time.
There has to be a reason.
Aka small snapshots of Jin Zixuan realising Wei Wuxian isn’t so bad. And more.

Work Text:

Jin Zixuan groans inside seeing the cultivators in purple robes, already wishing he was in a different place without certain young masters from Yunmeng.

There's no chance to avoid them but instead of Wei Wuxian's glaring eyes, he gets a polite bow from him which immediately makes him tense.

No biting words? Jin Zixuan isn't sure how long it will last, knowing well enough Wei Wuxian’s temperament.

But he is pleasantly surprised as the brothers go on their own way, his heart lifts with relief as he avoids another awkward confrontation.

The hunt goes well and only sees the Yunmeng duo at the end of the hunt, Wei Wuxian standing straight, nudging his brother's shoulder as the younger disciples' attention doesn't stray away, face glowing with excitement and happiness, listening to their da-shixiong’s every word.

Looking at Wei Wuxian's face, the bright grin spreading on his lips, he has to look away from the bright happiness spreading on the face he has mostly seen scowling.

Huh. Different for sure.

He turns to his fellow disciples and forgets about Wei Wuxian.

The next time they meet, he’s fighting against a yao, sword out, spiritual energy more depleted than in a normal fight. So when arrows hit the yao, infused with spiritual energy, slowing it down as the familiar shape in the purple robes, red ribbon in his hair.

Wei Wuxian looks serious for a change, eyes only straying on him for a moment before using a talisman, he isn’t familiar with. The yao shrieks in retaliation, the strength pushing them away, making their legs root into the ground, the resentful energy not letting them move, no matter how much Jin Zixuan uses his spiritual energy.

“Is young master Jin okay?”

With his previous failure, and Wei Wuxian’s weird behaviour, he can’t take it any longer.

“What’s wrong with you? Why are you being so weird?”

Wei Wuxian gives him an amused look.

“I don’t know what the Young Master is talking about.”

Jin Zixuan narrows his eyes, knowing well he was being played.

“That’s what I’m talking about! Calling me Young Master and being polite if you want something just spit it out.” The words burst out of Jin Zixuan without a pause as he strides closer to Wei Wuxian.

“I’ve always been polite.”

“You have been mockingly polite.”

Wei Wuxian’s lips curl into a grin. “Aww, did Young Master miss my company and my honest words to keep his ego in check?”

“You’re so annoying,” he says, cheeks flushing as he buries any feelings in connection to Wei Wuxian.

Wei Wuxian laughs but  it sounds happier in his presence than Jin Zixuan remembers. There’s no escape from Wei Wuxian as he stands closer, leaning in, personal space no longer existing.

“But you’re still talking to me,” he says, moving his finger left and right.

Jin Zixuan doesn’t feel regret when he stomps away with a red face, heart thumping in his chest.

How infuriating.

There’s no easy way to say it. Wei Wuxian is the world’s biggest idiot, Jin Zixuan is sure about this.

“What are you doing?”

“Transferring spiritual energy, what does it look like, stupid?” Wei Wuxian scowls at him.

“The ghost sucked your energy too.”

“If you didn’t jump in front of me like a stupid idiot.”

“You were leaving yourself open!” Jin Zixuan almost yells.

“I was playing the bait!”

“How could you play the bait when you’re alone?”

“You’re here aren’t you?”

“You’re impossible.”

“Thank you,”

“That wasn’t a compliment. You can’t just give me spiritual energy when yourself isn’t in a good shape.”

“Please. If your family hears about me being there when you get hurt, I would never hear the end of it from Madam Yu.”

“Just shut up.”

“Why don’t you shut me up if you hate to hear my voice so much?”

Jin Zixuan would like to blame his non-existent concussion when he leans closer, his attention drawn to Wei Wuxian’s eyelashes, as he pushes his lips to his. He closes his eyes, not even wanting to see his reaction but instead of a raging outbursts he feels the answering soft lips.

Jin Zixuan freezes for a moment before slumps against Wei Wuxian’s shoulder, lips working against each other. Both of them lean back but Jin Zixuan can’t look at him.

“Is Xuan-gege not going to take responsibility for taking my first kiss?”

Jin Zixuan turns his head to him so quickly he fears he pulled something.

“Gege?” he repeats, hoarsely, face burning and he can’t escape from Wei Wuxian’s bright eyes, full of affection. He leans closer to Jin Zixuan, kissing his cheek again.

“Gege, doesn’t like my healing kisses?” Wei Wuxian pouts, looking sadly at him.

“You’re incorrigible.”

“Maybe you should kiss me again, so you can fix my behaviour.”

“I don’t think that works like that.”

“Don’t you want to find it out?”

He wants to.

He does.
