Chapter Text

Izuku sighed as he walked down the sidewalk, his head down and shoulders hunched. He could hear as a loud commotion drew the attention of most of the nearby citizens but couldn’t be bothered to follow. What was the point? Everyone he ever asked didn’t believe he could be a hero, even the number 1 hero said so. A sudden pounding sound brought his attention to a billboard just outside a big white washed building. A man stood in front of it, hammering a nail into the wood. His curiosity getting the best of him Izuku walked up and stood next to the man. He simply looked at Izuku before nodding his head and stepping back grabbing the rest of his flyers and nails. The paper he’d nailed up, Izuku saw, was an advertisement for the Japan Military.
“Hey kid? You interested?” He looked at the man who stood there holding out an advertisement. Taking the ad Izuku read it.
“Accepting anybody from ages 16-20. Join the Japan Military and train to become a soldier.” A picture of All Might was pointing at Izuku in the middle of the page reminding Izuku of the old American Military Personification “Uncle Sam”. Izuku chewed on the inside of his cheek.
“Well?” Izuku looked back up at the man only now taking in his clothes. Mottled Green and Brown fabric hung loosely from his body. The left breast of his Shirt was decorated with medals and a name tag that read “Lieut. Isamu Tanaka” on his head covering close shaven brown hair was a cap that matched his uniform.
“I...I don’t know.”
“Well just know that I think you would make a good soldier. You have an analytical look In your eye that we could use.”
“Even if I’m Quirkless?”
“Kid, everyone who joins has something. Some were unable to be heroes, some were poor. You’re quirkless. But you want to know what all of them had in common? They all had Courage and the Drive to make a difference. So don’t you.” The man walked away after pressing a paper into his hand. Words of people who knew him but hadn’t believed him pounded around his head being overshadowed by a man, whom he had only just met saying he could be useful and achieve his dream of being a hero without a quirk something even the number 1 hero didn’t believe. Izuku looked down at the paper in his hands before quickly grabbing a pen from his bag and began filling it out on the nearest flat surface. Upon finishing Izuku walked into the building before him and handed the paper to a woman who was quick to file it and hand him a stack of papers. Looking through the stack he saw there was a form for his doctor, a form for quirk registration, a form and note for his mother, and lists. Lists of what if he got accepted he would need to pack. Pulling his phone from his backpack he dialed the name of the Office his doctor worked at.
“Hello this is Mustafu General Doctors, his may we help you today?”
“Hi this is Midoriya Izuku, I was wondering if Doctor Daichi Sato was free today? I need him to fill out a form for me.”
“Hmm he has an opening in 50 minutes would that work?” Izuku checked the time on his phone. ‘Five minutes after my curfew.’
“Yeah that should work.”
“And will you be coming in alone again Mr Midoriya?” Her voice had a knowing yet disappointed tone to it.
“Uh yeah. Sorry.”
“Alright we’ll see you in a few.”
“Thanks Mrs Ito.”

After hanging up Izuku texted his mom that he would be at the arcade with a friend. His go to excuse nowadays when he wanted to do something that was after his curfew. She was quick to respond with a thumbs up emoji. Turning around Izuku began making his way towards the doctors offices. Upon reaching it and entering Izuku was greeted by most of not all of the doctors and nurses that worked there. He greeted them all in turn and bowed to each. He’d become a common sight, coming in and getting burns and the like treated after a particularly bad run in with Kacchan. He wasn’t sure how or what he said had convinced them not to tell his mother about the first visit but they had agreed that they wouldn’t tell. He then would go to them if he had a bad ‘accident’ with Kacchan. Each time they pleaded that he tell his mother about the bullying but he always placated them with “next time it happens I will.”
“Midoriya? Doctor Daichi is ready to see you.” Ito Kaida said as her twin Ito Kohana approached. “Thanks Ito-Sans.” Grabbing his things Izuku followed Kohana into the back.
“Well Little Clover? What’s this visit for? Your physically unharmed, you’re scheduled Physical was last month and your mother had isn’t with you meaning it’s something you’re doing without her knowing. So what is it?”
“I want to join the Military.”
“The Military? You sure? What about becoming a hero? And going to U.A.? It’s been your dream forever.”
“I woke up from that dream.” Was his reply effectively ending that discussion.
“Well...uh, does your mom know about you joining?” Izuku averted his eyes.
“Izuku,” he could hear the disappointment and worry in Kohana’s voice.
“Kohana, this is something I want to do, my mom didn’t want me to become a hero cause it’s so unsafe, but she was willing to tolerate it because I would still be close to home. Joining the Military might bring me elsewhere in the world and it’s just as dangerous as a hero if not more. She would rather lock me up than let me go. If I want to do this and I do, I need to do it without her knowing. Which means she can’t be told at all.”
Kohana sighed and nodded. “Fine, I want you, no we all of us at this office wants you to live your dream if this is what you want then so be it, but just don’t get killed okay? You’re just as much family here as our own families at home.” She had tears in her eyes as she smiled at him. She and her sister had always been like Sisters too him and to have her approval lifted a great burden off his shoulders. He nodded and they continued towards Daichi’s office. They got there as the last patient was leaving.
“Izuku, what do I owe the pleasure?”
“I need you to fill out this Form Daichi-San.” Izuku bowed holding out the form to the closest thing to a father figure he ever had in his life. Kohana took her leave, sharing a glance with Daichi as he took the offered paper.
“Izuku, this is for the Military. Are you sure?” Izuku looked up with determination.
“Yes. This is what I want.”
“Get on the bed then let’s give them as current information as we can.”
Daichi then proceeded to give Izuku a Physical filling out the form as he went, a request for a copy of Izuku’s medical forms to be made and brought to him. When he left the office an hour later he had a folder in his bag with all his medical requirements and Quirk registration papers within. His mother sat at the dining room table waiting for him dinner waiting on a hot plate when he walked into their apartment.
“Hello Mom, how was work?”
“It was good sweetie. How was the Arcade? Who’d you go with?”
“A friend from school, his name is Walter, he’s from America. It was his last day before he went back home.”
“That’s nice of you.”
Izuku nodded sitting down and taking his dinner to begin eating. Their dinner from that point on was silent as they ate and got ready for bed. After finishing his homework Izuku took out the remaining papers and shifted to the list of what he needed to pack. Quietly so as too not be heard and awake his mother he began packing everything crossing out everything he had and circling what he still needed to buy. Afterwards triple checking everything he went to bed and fell asleep.

Izuku looked around as he approached the school. The sun was just barely rising and people not yet awake but he knew that this would be the perfect time to catch his principle. The Principle tended to get to school at 4:00 due to being more of a night owl. It was understandable given her Quirk gave her Owl Characteristics. Glancing at his phone he looked up at the sound of footsteps. The principle didn’t acknowledge him other than a simple grimace before unlocking the doors and holding the door open for him in a silent command. Wordlessly she led him to her office where she ignored him for a half hour. When she finally acknowledged him it was with the air of someone who was asked to take out the garbage and didn’t want to even go near it.
“What can I do for you, Mr Midoriya?”
“I need you too sign these forms.” She grabbed the forms he slid across the desk and silently looked over them.
“And why would I do this?”
“Because if you sign these forms that will release me from the school saying that I graduated early then you won’t have to deal with me for the next four months of school. I would be completely out of your hair and you wouldn’t need to continue spreading lies that I’m a troublesome child all so that the other students can get into their chosen schools. You can just say the truth.” The lady seemed to be considering it and if he didn’t want her too sign them he would have been disgusted.
“Fine.” She grabbed her bellpointe fountain pen and began going through signing everything under where his mother’s signature sat. Finally she was done and he took them back stashing them into his backpack and standing up.
“Have a nice day.” She just waved him off turning back to her paperwork.
“Oh and if your could refrain from telling the other students that I ‘graduated early’ until the end of school that would be awesome. Bakugou doesn’t need anything to distract him.” She just lazily waved him away before turning too her phone.

Izuku smiled at the lady at the front desk of the district hall as he entered.
“Hello, shouldn’t you be in school by now?”
“No ma’am I graduated early. I’m here to turn in the remaining forms for my application to the military.” She smiled and held out her hand for the forms. He handed them too her and watched as she did a quick scan through them before smiling and placing them in a folder next to his application.
“You’re just in time, the approved forms were returned today and we were just preparing to send them out.”
“That was fast.”
“We have someone with a speed quirk working for us.” Izuku nodded. And took the envelope that she handed to him. “Thank you.”
“Inside you’ll find another list of things they recommend you bring as well as the necessities. There’s a letter from the generals inside and an overview of what you should expect.” Izuku nodded before leaving the building thanking the lady on his way out. Opening it he took out the lists and added them to his previous list. His next stop was the mall and then to find someplace he could stay until the end of the week when the incoming cadets would be expected to the meeting spot where they would be brought to the training camp. Smiling to himself Izuku looked forwards to reaching his new dream.

26 years later

Izuku stepped out of the black car that held his fellow generals and looked up at the familiar building he once hoped to enter every day. U.A. High school stood just as proud as the first time her saw it online.
“General Midoriya, you coming?” Izuku startled out of his daze and nodded, looking to his best friend and fellow general. Mamoru Takahashi waited for him to catch up before the two walked side by side to the gate where five heroes and a familiar skeleton stood waiting for them. On the far right stood a woman in a a pink and black striped body suit, next to her stood a man in a black padded muscle shirt, black pants and a red belt and shoulder pads that crossed over his chest. In the Middle next to the skeleton stood a white mouse bear dog creature in a suit and brown hiking boots. A man in a black sweat suit, gray scarf and yellow goggles stood next to the creature and on the right of him, a familiar spiky haired man in a black tank top with a orange cross on it, green camo pants and green arm bracers.
“General Tanaka, I’m glad you could get here on such a short notice.” The creature that Izuku had identified as Nedzu principle of U.A. and possessor of the quirk ‘High Spectacle’ said shaking the high generals hand.
“It’s nice to finally meet the highly regarded principle of U.A. Lots of your would be students ended up joining the Military so that they could still in some degree be a hero. So thank you.” Izuku had to suppress his snort when he saw the hardly hidden smirk of his general.
“Yes, well they just didn’t fit in our curriculum. I’m glad they found their calling.” It was obvious the animal was trying to maintain the calm by remaining calm himself.
“Would you introduce us to your colleagues?” General Tanaka asked motioning to the heroes.
“Ah yes, on your right is number 3 hero Uravity, her quirk is Gravity. Next too her is the Number 4 hero Red Riot, quirk Hardening. Then we have former number 1 hero and symbol of peace All Might, and Underground hero Eraserhead quirk Eraser. And finally we have-“
“Katsuki Bakugo, Hero name Ground Zero, Quirk Explosion, Rank Number 2 hero.” Izuku spoke up interrupting the rat and gaining everyone’s attention.
“Yes, that would be correct and you might be?”
Izuku removed his cap as his commander motioned him closer.
“This is Major General Midoriya Izuku.”
“It’s nice too meet the third ranking general. Might I ask how you know our Ground Zero so formally?”
“I grew up with him. Isn’t that right Kacchan?” Izuku looked too Katsuki, who had stood frozen since Izuku spoke, with a big smile on his face. The Smile and Nickname seemed to break him from his shock as he launched himself into the air with a cry of
“DEKUUUUUUUUU.” He aimed his right fist at Izuku explosion building up while explosions kept him in the air with his left. Izuku just sighed before motioning for the others to back off as he, still smiling, dodged and grabbed Bakugou’s wrist and threw him into the ground just before Eraserhead was able to activate his quirk.
“Katsuki, I thought you would have learned better than to make your fighting style less predictable. You always start with a right hook. Every time.”
“Shut the fuck up.” Bakugou growled getting up and grabbing the front of izuku’s shirt. “Tell me why I shouldn’t blast you too oblivion right here!” Izuku merely shrugged his lips clasped in a slight smile.
“Fucking answer me you fucking nerd!”
“He won’t answer you until you tell him to not shut up.” Colonel Rin said amused.
“What?”
“You told him to shut up. He likes to take things literally.” General Tanaka answered.
“Fucking nerd! Open your damn mouth and Answer me!”
“Sorry Katsuki, you shouldn’t blast me to oblivion cause it only takes a fraction of the time for you to build up an explosion for me to pull this trigger. So think carefully.” Bakugou froze as he felt the cold barrel of a gun press into his side. “Now back up and get back in line like a good hero.” Bakugou did as he said hands raised face frozen in shock.
“There that’s all settled, now shall we go in?” Izuku asked putting his gun away and clapping his General on the shoulder.
“Oh an Katsuki, you may have taken anything you could from me but know this is the part That you're never gonna ever take away from me.”
