Work Text:

Auira knew that she was a special case. From the time that she was born up until now, her life had always revolved around physic powers. They first developed when she was about two months old. She would be able to predict little things like the weather, but as time went on her powers to "see" into the future increased.

At the age of 10 she started to help people out with their daily troubles and made a name for herself in town. It made her happy and she thought that it wasn't that hard. That was until she saw her first death mark on a person. It had scared her at first, but she soon found out that they didn't exactly mean immediate death for the person. It just meant that there were going to be accidents that could lead up to it, So she tried her best to tell people what to avoid.

It had once again been peaceful for another two years, aiura thought she had everything under control. The sight of death marks didn't scare her that much anymore. So when she saw a girl in her mid 20's walking down the street with the writing she was so familiar with across her face, she decided to go up to her and help out.

Looking back on it, she should've inspected it more closely. She should've known that the headache and the slightly aching bones were a sign from the universe telling her that the girl was different from the others. But it was new to her, and she was too young to understand the real dangers of the world. Her "ritual" was done like always and she had told the person what she would have to avoid to prevent death to fall upon her.

That night she the worst dreams of her life, all she could do was turn and toss around. She didn't understand what was happening in the dream at first. Images of the stranger she had seen that afternoon were shown, the girl was crying and shouting for help while being tied down. The shouting only got louder and louder when a man walked up to the girl and did the unspeakable to her, the images of the man punching and hurting the girl would not disappear and she could not wake up. It was as if she was right there next to the girl but she couldn't do anything, and then it all went quiet...

A week later 22 year old Yamamoto Hinami was found dead.

______________

her eyes shot wide open, only to find herself resting her head against the desk. 'I'm at school' she remembered shortly, but her mind was once again consumed by the dark past that she had been trying to forget for years. She stood up with a hand covering her mouth and ran to the nearest bathroom, feeling the food that she had eaten this morning making its way up, not caring about all the students giving her weird looks, and mind too clouded to notice how hard saiki had been staring at her back leaving the classroom.

"Teacher, I don't think mikoto is feeling well today. May I go check up on her?" Yumeraha chiyo said with a raised hand as soon as she saw her dear friend run out the door. "Yes please do, you don't mind taking her to the nurse's office either right?" Asked the teacher with a look of concern. "Not at all" was the last thing chiyo said while leaving.

The moments that had just unfolded had taken saiki by surprise. Although he could read the thoughts of people, the dreams could only be seen if his head gear was taken off. So when aiura had woken up from her nap, he was perfectly capable of hearing what she was thinking. That was the first time that he had trouble reading her thoughts as she ran to the bathroom. They were all over the place. 'WHY NOW?' 'JUST FORGET ABOUT IT' 'ITS FINE' 'ITS OK' 'YOU'RE OK.' 'NO, NO, NO'

He put his head down and used clairvoyance to see that she was now in a stall throwing up, Chiyo by her side holding her hair up and rubbing her back. He raised his head back up and decided to wait until class ended to go to the nurse's office himself. He had spent the 30 minutes left of class trying to make sense of her thoughts that were still all over the place.

______

Class had finally ended and everyone was making their way home. Saiki had to wait until there wasn't many people inside the school to avoid being noticed entering the nurse's office. once he made sure the halls were cleared, he practically teleported to aiura. He had known that she had been silently crying, but seeing her up close made his chest sting.

Saiki wasn't stupid, he knew damn well why he was feeling this way. He knew that because of this feeling he had been listening to chiyo comfort aiura in the bathroom instead of paying attention to class. And he knew that waiting those extra minutes after class for everyone to leave all while hearing her cry was suffocating. He knew, but wouldn't admit It. How ever since they stopped the volcano from exploding, he thinks of her a bit more. Or he doesn't really mind her presence as much anymore. He's already used to her grabbing his arm and holding it, so he waits just a little longer to tell her to get off of him.

But he just can't admit it.

________

He made sure to let aiura know that he was there, but she was still somehow surprised to see him right in front of her. 'Don't cry' he said when she looked at him in the eyes, voice softer then he actually wanted it to be. "I-I can't" she said. not being able to hold back on her tears, she started crying out loud. By now he knew why she was crying, her thoughts were now crystal clear and he wished he couldn't see the memories that passed through his head.

He sat down on the little bed, thinking of a way to comfort her. It was hard because he knew he wasn't good with words, so he just embraced her. He let her cry on him, until she could tell him her worries.

This time she's not surprised by the touch of him around her, she had the feeling that they've gotten closer these past few months. So as soon as he puts his arms around her, she feels safer, and cries.

___________

By the time she's done crying and telling saiki about her past and how she always gets these nightmares around this time of the year, it was dark out. Saiki teleported the both of them out of the school to a park nearby since the school was now closed. There was a peaceful silence between them, both sitting on a bench and looking up at the sky. Saiki was still reading her thoughts, some were about the sky, others about the both of them being this close, and most were of her blaming herself.

'It's not your fault' he told her, tired of hearing her blame herself. "I know...I just can't help but feel guilty" she said with a long sigh. 'So this was why you said you wouldn't stop using your powers when I asked you to?' He asked while taking his sight away from the sky to her now puffy face. "Mhhmm" she nodded. "I don't wanna see people suffer" she said after a long pause.

The comfortable silence had taken over them once again. And he asked one more time. 'And what if you get hurt?' With this, she looked at him. They were both staring at each other now. "Well I have you to save me, don't I?" She pulled a little smile that loosened the stress on his shoulders. 'Yes, you do.' They stared at each other for a little more until aiura noticed herself. "You should stop staring at me like that or I will get the wrong idea" she said while getting up from the bench, and faced him once again. But this time she had a normal smile on her face. "Thank you kusuo, for everything" her smile became even brighter, and his world became brighter. She began to walk away from him, who was still sitting on the bench. "Come on, its pretty late now and my mom will get mad at me" she said, and saiki was already right next to her.

He walked her home, and both were now a few steps away from the gate to her house. "I'm feeling better now, so don't think about me too much." She said while looking at him. "Ahhh, I take it back. You better think about me kusuo" she said a bit panicked this time. Saiki was just glad that she was back to herself, though his face still showed no emotion. "Bye bye, I love yo-" she was cut off by him grabbing her arm gently. 'You should get the wrong idea' was what he said. It took her a second to realize he was talking about their conversation at the park. And even though his face was emotionless, the moonlight helped her see the tiniest little blush creeping up his cheeks.

Her face too began to blush. but unlike his, hers was way too noticeable. "Aha!" She said with confidence that would hide how nervous she really was, even though saiki already knew how she was feeling. "I knew you had a thing for me" aiura was now pointing a finger to him, and saiki stayed quiet never looking away from her eyes. All the staring made her even more nervous, so she quickly gave him a peck on the cheek and ran inside her house.

Her thoughts being heard by saiki who was still standing there with a shocked face, never expecting her to kiss his cheek. In the end he regained control and walked home with a little smile.
