Chapter Text
0 BBY. World between worlds
«Death is a natural part of life. Rejoice for those around you who transform into the Force. Mourn them do not. Miss them do not. Attachment leads to jealously. The shadow of greed, that is.»
«Dear child. I see your eyes. You already know the truth. Whomever you're waiting for on Jakku... they're never coming back…»
«You give way to an enemy this evil with this much power and you condemn the galaxy to an eternity of submission.»
«But... there's someone who still could…»
«We'll see each other again. I believe that.»
«Show me… Grandfather… and I will finish… what you started.»
«The belonging you seek is not behind you... it is ahead.»
«The time to fight is now!»
«The Resistance will not be intimidated by you.»
«This is our most desperate hour. Help me, Obi-Wan Kenobi. You're my only hope.»
«You never would have made it as Obi-Wan's padawan, but you might make it as mine.»
He wanders around and doesn’t understand what is happening. World between worlds doesn’t look like he thought it was going to be. But these words — they seem to be meaningful.
Ezra goes closer to one of the portals. It calls to him, it wants to show him something. He isn’t sure why he does it but he relies on the Force.
The portal starts to shimmer and, suddenly, Ezra sees the scene.
A black-haired boy, is sitting on the floor and crying. He seems to be at the age of 9 or 10. A man in a classic Jedi robe is standing over the boy.
«Sorry, Ben, for some time you will stand here and learn and practice how to use the Force. Your mum and dad never left you, they just want the best for you.» Jedi in his middle-thirties is staying calm but insistent. The whole scene slightly irritates him but he remains the same.
«But I don’t want to be a Jedi! I want to go home and I want my dad to come back! Why… why did they send me away? What have I done wr… wrong?» Boy with a devastated look and stained tears on his cheeks is trembling unbearable.
«Ben, you haven’t done anything wrong, everything’s okay, your parents still love you, you are here for your own good. Besides, my sister will eventually come here as soon as she can. Now stop crying and get some sleep before we start our first lesson. Good night, Ben.» He leaves a boy in the hut and goes away, leaving him with his own fears, troubles and thoughts.
Ben stares into the void in front of him. His eyes grow darker. The sight of his gaze could terrify anyone.
Even through the portal, Ezra starts to feel a dark cloud above the boy. He seems to be very strong in the Force but right now his Force signature is full of dark side. Suddenly, the scene changes.
It’s a sand planet. The desert looks endless and abandoned which, by the looks of it, is hotter than hell. A woman in tatter is carrying a bulk of layers of fabrics that hides a newborn girl from a human eye. Woman with a chestnut hair and big hazel eyes looks at the baby with a loving but scared look. The bulk starts to radiate with enormous amount of light.
The scene changes again to the boy named Ben that starts to glow with the same light from within but he probably doesn’t see or feel it.
Ezra’s heart skipped a beat. He focused on the light. It was pure gold and pulsated as though it had a heartbeat. His gaze then returned to the newborn baby just in time to witness how something like a red ribbon started to connect through space to the boy’s heart.
While watching the amazing birth of something new, Ezra could only hear indistinct voices from afar.
«Rey… these are your first steps»
«It's energy…»
«Noooo!»
«… surrounds us, and binds us.»
«You still can come back …»
«Show me…»
«They betrayed me!»
«… Something new …»
«Balance!»
«I believe in you!»
«Together …»
All those voices and foggy scenes were uncontrollable. Ezra decided to stop watching and listening to something that seemed to be an another secret of the Force. Slipping away from the trance, he continued walking, wondering what was he going to do next.
Little did Ezra knew that he have just witnessed the birth of the greatest bond of all times.
