Chapter Text
AN: Bold means Itoku is speaking
Jules Verne once wrote: "Put two ships in the open sea, without wind or tide... they will come together". That's how my parents met: like two ships destined for each other.
The rain was coming down harder than Shouto ever saw. He ran outside to close the shutters, but it was difficult. As he finally closed the last one, he looked down to where the rocks were and was shocked to see a man lying unconscious on them, a strange looking trident lying next to him. Shouto ran down and brought him back up, careful of the large gash on his side. From what he could tell he had dark green hair and freckles all over his face. His body suit was green as well and seemed to shimmer. Once at the door, he kicked it open and ran in to lay him on the table. As he did, the power went out from the storm going outside. Shouto was startled when he suddenly coughed up water, spitting it out to the side, taking some much-needed breaths of air.
“It’s ok, it’s ok.” Shouto tried to stay calm, especially for the man’s sake. The next second, the man was up and had him pinned against the wall, pointing the trident at Shouto. Though, he could tell he was struggling. His dog, Bean, was barking in the background.
“Easy, easy. You weren’t breathing-” Shouto barely rasped out before he was cut off when the power came back on. What seemed to startle the man the most was the TV. Some old show about something underwater. Letting go of Shouto, the man took aim and threw the trident right into the TV. The man straightened and placed a hand on his wound and that seemed to be the last of his strength as Shouto barely managed to catch him before he hit the floor.
They were from different worlds, but life, like the sea, has a way of bringing people together
Shouto cleaned the gash and bandaged it before laying him down on the couch. Once he was sure he was comfortable, he placed heavy fleece blanket over him, making sure he wouldn’t get cold while he slept.
Izuku’s POV
Waking up was a surreal experience. The last thing he remembered was teal and blue eyes and warm arms before passing out. Feeling his side, Izuku looked down and saw it as bandaged. ‘The human man from before must’ve done that.’ Sitting up, he took in his surroundings, awed by all the human things he saw. A low whine caught his attention and he saw some kind of animal sitting in the chair, staring at him. He was clearly a pup, with golden fur. Looking down, he saw he was covered by what was the best blanket. He felt the blanket and was amazed by the softness of it and felt the pillow, amazed by how poofy it was. He saw the fish tank and suddenly realized how hungry he was. Getting closer, he watched the fish for a moment before he grabbed one and put it in his mouth, ignoring the whine coming from the pup beside him, “Uhh,” came beside him. There stood a man with red and white hair split down the middle and had one grey eye and one teal eye. There was also a scar covering the left side of his face.
"I was gonna make you some eggs." He said holding two cups. Izuku slurped up the rest of the fish, “Just don’t eat my dog ok?” He said. The pup gave another whine before hopping down from the chair and running from the room. Izuku backed up on the couch as the man came around to sit in the chair beside him.
“It’s ok, it’s ok,” He said, holding out a cup, “I made tea.” He demonstrated blowing at him, signalling that it was hot, “Go on, try it. It’ll make you better.”
Izuku took the cup, curiosity clearly in his face. Placing both hands on the cup, he copied what his saviour did, blowing on it cool it down. Watching him take a sip, Izuku did the same and was pleased by the taste and gave the man a smile.
Leaning forward, the man asked, “So, uh, who are you?”
“Izuku,” he introduced, “King of Atlantis.” The man seemed amused by the answer but seemed to believe him.
“Wow,” he paused, “I’m Shouto, Keeper of Lighthouse.”
Izuku and Shouto shared a smile before taking another sip of their tea.
--------
Izuku stood at the top of the lighthouse, watching as what Shouto dubbed snow, fall from the sky. Winter, he called it. Reaching out, he let the snow catch in his hand. He felt Shouto come up from behind him and placed an afghan over his shoulders, as he wasn’t used to the various temperatures on the land. Standing close, Izuke leaned closer, as did Shouto and they shared a sweet kiss.
Pops had fled an arranged marriage, left his whole world behind. But in my father’s lighthouse, he found something unexpected.
Shouto and Izuku lay in bed, Shouto behind Izuku as they both caressed Izuku’s stomach, swollen with their soon-to-be child. Shouto placed a kiss on Izuku’s cheek, wondering how this man could make him so happy in the small amount of time they’d been together. And Izuku was just happy to be able to choose who he wanted to love.
And my father found the love of his life.
Months later, their son was born and they had yet to come up with a name for him. Shouto was setting up a camera for them to take their first family photo while watching the news about the hurricane dubbed “Arthur”. Izuku came in carrying the baby, dressed in his bathrobe and sat on the couch.
“What about, Itoku? He was a legend. He’s a King, isn’t he?” Shouto said as he took a seat beside Izuku, wrapping an arm around his little family. Izuku laughed as he sat the baby up and faced him forward. He had Izuku’s eyes and freckles and his hair, what he had, was mostly white with green speckled in with it. He stared up at Izuku as he spoke.
“He’s more than that. He’s living proof that our people can coexist. He could unite our two worlds one day.” Izuku leaned down and kissed the now named Itoku on his forehead, making him gurgle in happiness. The camera readied itself and the new parents faced towards it, Izuku laying his head on Shouto’s shoulder while the other rested his head on Izuku’s. They both smiled happily as the camera flashed to capture the moment forever.
-----
Izuku sat in the chair, holding a two-year-old Itoku in his lap as he told the tale of King Yagi and the tale of the lost trident. Using a toy Trident and little bear to act out the tale.
“
And the Trident could only be wielded by the strongest Atlantean. And it gave the King Yagi master of the Seven Seas. It made him so powerful that the ocean became so jealous and sent a terrible earthquake to destroy Atlantis. Down it fell to the bottom of the ocean. But legend has it that one day a new king will come who will use the power of the Trident to put Atlantis back together again.”
Shouto listened as he went over a crossword puzzle and smiled as he watched his two favourite people interact. Bean lay on the couch next to him, then suddenly he pursed his head as if he was hearing someone coming. Though, the two next to him didn’t notice until Bean stood up suddenly and started barking. Izuku pulled Itoku closed just as an explosion burst through the wall in front of them. Acting quickly, Izuku handed Itoku to Shouto, knowing exactly who was attacking them, Atlantian Soldiers, “Take him!” Shouto scooped Itoku into his arms and ran from the room as Izuku quickly stood from the chair, his
body battle ready to protect his family.
Shouto ran from the room to the kitchen, Izuku following behind him. Another blast went through the door, cutting Izuku off, and surrounding him. Shouto placed Itoku by a cupboard, making sure he was well out of sight before heading back to Izuku. One soldier stepped forward, pointing his weapon at Izuku, stepping on their family picture as he did so
“King Izuku, by the authority of King Bakugou, you
are ordered to return to Atlantis.”
“Izuku!” Shouto yelled, grabbing Izuku’s attention.
But Atlantis’ memory is long, and its ruler refused to let him go.
Looking away, Izuku’s mind took on the role of a warrior and quickly snapped into action. He knocked the weapon pointed at him away and turning his kicked the soldier beside him out the window. Using the momentum, he used the other soldier as a shield as he crossed to where the others were. Taking the gun and throwing the dead soldier down, he jumped and hit him, taking out the life support. Seeing Shouto out of the corner of his eye, he yelled to him, “Shouto! My weapon!” Moving quickly, Shouto grabbed the trident from the book area and threw it to Izuku.
Holding the Trident after two years was invigorating, but Izuku quickly focused back on the fight on hand, while Shouto ran back their son. Izuku quickly spun and hit the soldier by the other kitchen entrance before swinging back around to take out the other that came from the hole in the wall. Moving swiftly, he used to the trident to quickly lift the couch and throw it at another. Turning, he stabbed another and lifted him, throwing him against the ceiling and letting him back down. Out of the corner of his eye, he saw a soldier behind Shouto and Itoku, so turning, he quickly took and with a mighty war cry, threw the Trident at the solider, embedding him into the wall.
Shouto turned to Izuke, a frightened Itoku in his arms, as he looked toward Izuku. Izuku, however, had a look of devastation on his face as he knew what he had to do now.
-------
Shouto and Izuku stood on the end of the pier, Izuku dressed in his Atlantian garb while holding Itoku.
Their two worlds were never meant to meet, and I was the product of a love that never should have been.
“You don’t have to do this, Izuku, please!” Shouto begged, his cheeks wet with tears. Izuku shook his head, his wet as well.
“No,” he said, holding Itoku close to him, cradling his small head, “they will always find me. Next time, they’ll send an army. I have to go back. It’s the only way to save him. To save you.” Izuku kissed Itoku’s forehead before handing him to Shouto. Feeling his face, his fingers came back wet with tears,
“Where I come from, the sea carries our tears away
.”
Shouto slowly shook his head, holding onto Itoku tightly.
“Not here. Here you feel them.”
Izuku sighed and stepped closer to the man he loved with all of his heart, “I will return to you. When it’s safe. One day, right here at sunrise, we’ll be together again.” Izuku kissed him before turning to Itoku. Looking down to his little one, he struggled not to let his voice break as he caressed his back, “You stay strong my little prince. I’ll always be with you.” Itoku whined, not knowing where his papa was going.
Turning, he started toward the end, but stopped and looked back one last time, “Don’t let him forget me.” Shouto nodded, trying to keep a strong face on for Itoku. Izuku smiled and turned away, running to the end of the pier and dived into the deep blue water, while Shouto and Itoku watched the person they loved most disappear from sight
