Chapter Text
"Again, we are not going to watch Next HarMEOWny's concert tomorrow, I have a history class assignment to do over the weekend." "...But it will be the best show you would have ever seen! Plus, I spent my entire week to make that cute bouquet for Fiona, and I'm gonna give it to her by myself!" "Jibanyan, most of the people will freak out if they see a huge bunch of flower floating in air-" "You are making a point...... But I just want to see her on stage! Aww."
It's already 3:30 in the afternoon. School is over, all the kids ran out from Springdale Elementary like a swarm of bumblebees. I am on my way home floating with my master, Keita Amano, and Jibanyan. It's still in early September; Keita has just been back to school as a sixth grader for a week, and today is just a perfect Friday for the start of school year. My master and the cat yokai are still arguing about whether they should go to the live concert at Downtown Sprindale, while Jibanyan was still trying his best to explain his devotion of seeing Fiona in person- his red little ears and double tails flicker impatiently as he raises his pitch up, convincing Keita how precious it is to just meet his favorite singer.
"...As one of her biggest fan here in Springdale, I need to be there tomorrow! She is the only person I want to see! Whisper, you know what I am talking about, right?"
"Uh...... Of course! You have told me so many times about her cuteness, there is no reason for not going to the concert!" I respond with a vague answer.
The Only Person...... I Want to See? I feel like something just struck my mind and left a dull, hurting pain behind. Surely I am satisfied with my life here in Springdale, spending all the days with Keita, going around and solving mysteries. Although Keita often sees me as an extremely unreliable butler, I still enjoy my daily life of following after him, giving him advice, analyzing yokais during battles (though he always grabs my pad and searches the yokai by himself);even just staying with him in the classroom makes me feel like I am a lot more useful than the yokai I used to be! There is no need to pretend, worry, perform, or apologize anymore- just follow the instruction of my Yo-pad and I will have everything in control. It doesn't matter whether I am doing my job well, because as long as I have the Yo-pad in my hand, I know that I am being a good butler.
But...... I know I must meet someone.
Why I still have that feeling of emptiness trapped inside me? Why I am still regretting for something I couldn't even remember? Every time after Keita and Jibanyan fall asleep, I will sit on the floor, and that confusing feeling will crawl onto my marshmallow-like body, tie my mind up with its unspeakably black tentacles, whisper at my tiny little ears that I should always feel guilty for HIM. Despite of being nearly swallowed by my negative thoughts at night when I stare at the beautiful moon, trying to relax, I have completely no memory about whom I was regretting for.
"Whisper? Whisper! I think it's raining, we need to get home soon and- Jibanyan, for the last time, I am not going to ask mom to drive you there!" Keita's voice drags me back to reality.
Huh? I look up to the sky, expect to see rain drops falling down, but there was only the meek afternoon sunlight shining in my sight. The golden streams of light waver around me, hover in between my tail and the concrete street, and cover my entire body with the warming heat like those golden veils on the brides I saw in weddings. I must be stunned by the sun- sometimes harsh on people but mostly warm for me, charismatic and attracting to me, it's almost like the sun is-I feel a drop on my face, then another one, then five or six more. It's sun showering, the rain drops fall onto ground almost invisibly, but all glitter as the sunlight passed through them, it's almost like the tiny rain is glowing as they free fall to the ground.
"This is...... beautiful." I can't help to express my amazement.
"Whisper! It's not just a sun shower! The sky is getting dark, we have to get home as fast as we could! Whisper? Whispe--"
The sun shower disappeared. The next second and there is only silence. Having just noticed that the sky is covered by nebulous, dark clouds, I try to turn back to find Keita, but the only thing I saw was a pair of purple eyes glowing in front of me.
And just before I manage to recall whom those amethyst-colored eyes belong to, I am knocked out by something and lose my consciousness.
"......Gotcha."
FOOTNOTE TIME:
In many myths and superstitions around the world, sun showers are often seen as the sign of some wise animal getting married-for example, sun shower is often related to The Fox's Marriage in Japanese traditional legends and tales.
