It’s late in the morning when Yoongi steps out of his home studio, twisting his neck a bit for some kind of comfort. He’s planning to get coffee (and maybe some toast) when he finds Jimin sitting by himself on the living room couch, a mug of hot chocolate in his small hands. His black hair looks soft under the soft morning light, his cheeks still flushed with sleep, and Yoongi tries not to think of other things when he sees the way his husband’s large shirt is nearly slipping off one shoulder, revealing smooth peachy skin and the way his neck slopes with an attractive curve. Instead, he focuses on the frown on his pretty face, eyebrows furrowed and lips curled into a thoughtful frown.
“Hey, baby, g’morning,” Yoongi whispers, aware of the morning haze settled in their house that he’s unwilling to shatter, “kiddo’s still asleep?”
“Oh,” Jimin startles, looking at Yoongi briefly before he places the mug on the coffee table and shifts on the couch until he’s facing Yoongi and hanging off the backrest, back arched prettily and completely not helping Yoongi, “morning, hyungie—and yeah, Kookie’s still asleep.”
Yoongi steps closer to him, cupping his baby’s warm cheek and planting a chaste kiss on his plump lips softly. Jimin smiles a bit, humming in appreciation and looking up at Yoongi. Yoongi kisses him on the nose, completely content as a warm feeling curled outwards from his chest. “Got any plans today?”
Jimin hums again, stretching languidly before shrugging. “Trick or treating stuff, supposedly, but, well—Kookie’s sick.”
Yoongi starts at this, eyebrows furrowing and glancing at the staircase leading to the bedrooms upstairs. He looks at Jimin again, aware of the worried expression on his own face. “Is he—”
“Our baby boy’s fine, babe, it’s nothing serious,” Jimin says easily, standing up from the couch and walking around to wrap his arms around Yoongi’s waist and resting his face on the crook of his neck, “I checked up on him earlier to see if he was awake, and he felt a little warm, is all.”
“Is that why you were all worried here by yourself?” Yoongi pulled Jimin closer, wrapping his arms around the younger’s shoulders and pressing his lips on his forehead, “there’s something more, I can tell. What is it, baby?”
Jimin actually whines, a soft distressed sound at the back of his throat as he presses himself impossibly closer to Yoongi’s warmth. “Kookie’s been looking forward to trick or treating with Taetae, but I don’t think he’ll be fine enough to walk around the neighborhood later. He’s going to be so sad, hyung.”
Yoongi’s heart clenched at the possibility, and at the way Jimin just sounded so distraught about the whole thing. He leans himself against the couch, Jimin in his arms and standing between his legs, before placing a soft kiss on the younger’s temple. “Guess we’ll just have to make this a memorable Halloween for Kookie without the trick or treating, yeah?”
He’d been planning on spending the day in his studio and fine tuning the mixtape of one of the idols at his and Namjoon’s company, but the smile Jimin gives him—so soft and full of adoration, flushed cheeks bunching up and eyes curling into half moons—was enough to make him clear his schedule for the day. What can he say, he’s every bit of the word whipped, down to the last letter, and he’s proud of it.
❄
Jungkook feels absolutely terrible.
He sits up on his bed, and he feels a sob coming but he fights it—he’s a big boy! He knows big boys cry, too, but Bunbun says it’s too early for him to make noise. What if he wakes Daddy? Or Papa? His daddies need sleep, too, so he keeps it in. Instead, he holds Bunbun close to his chest and crawls off the bed.
The floor is cold, but his Papa is the best because he put him in his favorite Spiderman footie big boy jammies, so he doesn’t feel the cold floor on his little toes as much. He sniffs, but has a bit of trouble and he ends up wincing when he feels his head throb a bit. He feels super terrible, he doesn’t feel like Super Kookie at all. How is he going to go trick or treating with Taetae-hyungie now?
Jungkook shuffles out of his room, Bunbun pressed close to his chest as he follows the voices of his daddies—they’re awake! Maybe if he gets kissies and cuddles from them, he’ll feel like Super Kookie again! He walks faster, sniffling harder and almost slipping on the floor when he lets Bunbun dangle by one hand.
He turns to the living room, his Papa and Daddy laughing at something, and Jungkook quickens his steps even further. When he reaches the living room, he gasps. Bunbun falls to the floor in his complete shock.
There, in the middle of the living room and facing the television, is a huuuge blanket and pillow fort. There are even pretty fairy lights and some of his stuffies inside! Wow, Jungkook can’t believe his eyes! His Papa’s sitting inside, looking up in awe and giggling into his hands as his Daddy is trying very hard to put another string of fairy lights inside.
“Papa? Daddy?” Jungkook calls out, and he laughs when his Daddy startles so hard he nearly loses his balance. Silly Daddy!
“Oh—hey, kiddo,” Daddy says, smiling that big smile Jungkook likes to see so much, “how’re you feeling?”
“Tewwible, Daddy, b-but,” Jungkook says, stepping closer and peeking into the fort with barely contained excitement and longing, “a-are we going to play fort today?”
“Yeah, Papa and Daddy will play fort with Kookie all day,” Papa says, reaching forward and scooping Jungkook up into his arms. Jungkook, despite his slight headache and runny nose, giggles shrilly at his Papa’s hands tickling him on all sides.
They end up sprawled on the soft blanket, laughing and giggling as Daddy fixes their fort until it’s perfect. The television is on, Jungkook’s Netflix account open on the homescreen. He sits up and crawls on his Daddy’s lap when he finally sits down.
“Daddy, can we call Taetae-hyungie over?” He holds Bunbun close, looking at his Daddy expectantly.
“Oh, baby, uh,” he stammers, eyes flitting over to his Papa’s nervously. Jungkook follows his gaze, lips pouting as a sad look crosses Papa’s face. “Baby, Taetae’s preparing to go trick or treating, for later.”
“...and K-Kookie’s not going because I don’t feel like Super Kookie anymore?” he asks quietly, looking down at his lap and sniffling.
“We’re sorry, baby boy, but Papa and Daddy promise that you’ll have fun today, okay?” Papa says, crawling over and leaning close to look into his eyes, “okay, baby? But before that, you need to take some medicine, and then we’ll play. Okay?”
Jungkook juts out his lower lip, until he sighs and nods his head. His Papa and Daddy never lies to him, they’re the best daddies! It sucks that he can’t go trick or treating, but he likes staying with his Papa and Daddy, anyway (and he really does feel super terrible—the fort looks and feels super comfy, too).
“Okay.”
❄
Yoongi watches with a fond and relieved smile as Jungkook settles comfortably in the fort, bundled snugly in his choco chip cookie costume with a cooling gel patch on his forehead. Jimin’s sitting next to him, browsing Netflix and helping Jungkook decide which movie they’ll start their Halloween with.
“You sure, baby? This looks a bit, uh, terrifying,” Jimin says, squinting at the movie displayed.
Yoongi settles down next to them, kissing Jungkook’s forehead and squeezing Jimin’s arm gently. “Baby, you’re scared of The Nightmare Before Christmas?”
“I—no, gosh. It’s just—the characters are a bit too much, aren’t they? Kookie has a vivid imagination,” Jimin whispers the last part, but plays the movie anyway when Jungkook whines in complaint at how long Jimin is taking.
Jungkook scoots forward, bowl of popcorn wedged snugly between his short legs, and he coos as the movie plays. Yoongi leans back on a mountain of pillows, and even without looking, he opens his arms as Jimin easily curls up into his side.
They spend the rest of the afternoon like that, cuddling in their fort and going on a Tim Burton marathon. When the sun begins to set, the kids outside are starting with their trick or treating, and for one moment, Jungkook looks out of the window longingly, but he just huffs and turns back to the movie, stuffing his mouth sulkily with cheesy popcorn. Jimin fights back a giggle, pressing his face against Yoongi’s neck, and Yoongi pinches his thigh gently when Jungkook throws them a glare for being noisy.
Eventually, Jungkook ends up falling asleep halfway through Beetlejuice, the bowl of popcorn tipped over and his right foot dipped inside. Even Jimin has fallen asleep, cheek squished against Yoongi’s chest and his small hands fisting the fabric of the older’s black tee shirt. Yoongi carefully shifts, laying Jimin gently down before moving to carry Jungkook and tuck him into bed. One night of skipping brushing his teeth is probably alright. Probably.
He walks back to the living room, stretching his back and arms before peeking back into the fort. Jimin’s curled up like a ball, knees tucked into his chest as he mumbles softly in his sleep. Yoongi smiles, crouching down and shifting his husband around carefully.
Gently, like he’s handling glass and the most precious treasure ever (he is), he loops his arms under Jimin’s knees and back, lifting him up rather easily into his arms. Jimin hums, head lolling to the side before he huffs and tucks his head against Yoongi’s neck. Yoongi walks back up their bedroom, passing Jungkook’s (and seeing him still fast asleep), before he enters their own.
He places Jimin gently on the bed, pulling the blanket over his tiny body and smiling dopily when Jimin mumbles a soft Yoonie in his sleep. Yoongi presses a kiss on his forehead, before going back down and making quick work of the mess they made that afternoon.
Eventually, he goes back up, checking on Jungkook one more time before slipping back into his and Jimin’s room. It’s still early, just a half past seven, and dinner already happened in the form of the pizza they’d microwaved earlier (unhealthy, but it’s not like they always live that way, so Yoongi lets it slide this time), but Yoongi already feels tired. He slips under the sheets, scooting closer to Jimin and pulling the younger man into his arms.
Jimin smacks his lips, humming and wiggling closer. He uses Yoongi’s folded arm as his pillow, and he smiles sleepily when Yoongi kisses him softly on the lips.
“Night, hyungie,” Jimin whispers, voice soft but thick with sleep.
“Good night, princess,” Yoongi says, kissing him one more time before he pulls Jimin closer to his body, and lets sleep take over.
❄
In hindsight, maybe letting Jungkook watch Beetlejuice on the night of Halloween was a terrible idea. Yoongi should’ve at least considered that Tim Burton’s child-friendly works—although supposedly meant for kids—still look relatively creepy and terrifying, and would still have an effect on imaginative kids.
It’s barely two in the morning when he hears the door creak open. Jimin groans softly, face pressed against Yoongi’s chest as his arms tighten around Yoongi’s middle at the disturbance. Yoongi shushes him softly, petting his hair as he sleepily cranes his neck to look over Jimin’s body, and at the door.
It’s dark, the only light coming from the automatic hallway lights, but it’s clear that Jungkook is standing in their doorway, his stuffed rabbit hanging from one hand while his other hand is curled into a fist, rubbing at his eyes and—
“D-daddy, p-papa, Kookie h-heawd the monstews—I’m scared,” he whispers sadly, voice hitching with barely there sobs, and his letters muffled because of his runny nose.
Yoongi kisses Jimin’s forehead quickly before detaching himself from his death grip. Jimin, barely half-awake, manages to mumble out a complaint at the lack of warmth two seconds later.
Yoongi is across the room in the blink of an eye, though, shushing a crying Jungkook and kneeling in front of him, pulling his baby boy into his arms and hugging him tight. Jungkook drops his Bunbun in favor of clutching Yoongi’s shirt, shaking and crying as he brokenly retells the story of hearing monsters under his bed, and maybe it’s Beetlejuice who’s come to take me away, Daddy!
Yoongi shushes him, kissing his forehead and easily lifting him up. Jungkook clings onto him like a lifeline, sniffling tiredly and wetly. “Shh, baby, it’s okay, Daddy’ll fight the monsters for you, okay?”
“Y-you pwomise? B-Beetlejuice w-won’t take me away?” Jungkook pulls away a bit to look at Yoongi’s face, lips downturned into a frown.
Yoongi hums, leaning up and pressing a loud kiss on his forehead that makes Jungkook giggle, wet and happy. “Daddy promises. Now let’s go fight the monsters, yeah?”
Jungkook looks scared for a moment, before he nods determinedly, huffing and raising his fists. “Yeah, Daddy, let’s go!”
❄
Jimin wakes up to an empty bed, and he whines softly in complaint before he hears his two boys talking in the hallway. He sits up, sleepy and out of it, before he slides off the bed and walks to the door.
The floor is cold against his bare feet, and his short shorts aren’t doing any help against the air conditioning in their house. Still, he just wraps his arms around himself and walks out, seeing Jungkook’s door wide open. He steps closer and peeks in, the sight he sees making him wake up fully, his heart swelling with so much love and affection. He leans against the door frame, arms folded across his chest as he watches the scene unfold with a smile on his face.
Yoongi’s on his knees beside Jungkook’s bed, tucking their baby boy in and whispering to each other. Jungkook is visibly sleepy, but he keeps on blinking to keep himself awake, eyes trained on his father’s face resolutely. His beloved toy sword is wedged in Bunbun’s arms (Jimin can see Yoongi had used a hair tie to keep it secure, the dork), and Yoongi is running his fingers through Jungkook’s soft brown hair.
“—to sleep now, okay, kiddo? The monsters are gone, I think they realized that you’re a big, strong boy already,” Yoongi is saying, and even without looking at his face, Jimin can tell his husband is smiling.
“B-but—they’ll leave fowever if Daddy scares them! Uncle Hobi-hyung sometimes says you’re scawy,” Jungkook whispers, giggling as he seemingly remembers something.
“Okay, I’ll talk to the monsters—and to Hoseokie—but Daddy promises, the monsters are gone,” he says softly, leaning over to kiss Jungkook on the forehead, “okay?”
Jungkook hums, blinking heavily before yawning. He nods, eyes closing as he makes grabby hands at Yoongi. “Okay, Daddy, b-but, uhm. T-tell them one more time to go away! And no bad words!”
Yoongi chuckles breathlessly, placing his hands over his own thighs as he straightens up on his knees. “Okay—alright, monsters! Jungkookie’s a big, strong boy, you can’t take him, and I won’t let you, anyway!”
Jungkook hums contentedly, before nodding his head and smiling at Yoongi. “Thank you, Daddy, I love you and Papa so much. Good night.”
“G’night, kiddo, we love you, too,” Yoongi whispers, standing up from his perch on the floor.
Jimin moves away from the door frame before Yoongi can see him. He leans back against the wall, waiting until Yoongi closed the door before he speaks. Yoongi jumps in surprise, but he smiles at Jimin, anyway.
“Hey, you,” Jimin says, quiet and soft, eyes full of adoration as he slides up to Yoongi. He puts his arms around the older’s neck, nosing at his jawline and sighing happily, “can’t believe I got to marry such a perfect man, a perfect daddy to our little nugget.”
Yoongi laughs breathlessly at this, pushing him against the wall gently, hands on the younger’s hips as he catches his plump lips in a quick kiss. “Yeah? Well, I can’t believe you said yes to me—me, of all people.”
“Momentary lapse in judgment, maybe?” Jimin teases, laughing when Yoongi pinches his sides gently, “I’m kidding—I love you, Min Yoongi. So much.”
Yoongi smiles, all teeth and gums as he slides his hands down Jimin’s side, down his soft thighs, and gripping him firmly behind the knees as he lifts him up. Jimin squeals, legs wrapping around Yoongi’s waist as he circles his arms around his neck more securely. “Love you, too, Min Jimin. More than you could ever imagine.”
“So cheesy,” Jimin whispers, smiling brightly as he leans in for a kiss.
“Just the way you like it, princess,” Yoongi murmurs, closing the distance between them, their lips pressing together softly, perfectly.
(“Super Kookie! Super Kookie! Taetae’s here, and I have a surprise for you!” Taehyung shrieks, barrelling into Jungkook’s room without any warning.
Jungkook startles out of his sleep, hair wild and eyes wide as he looks at Taehyung in confusion. “Taetae-hyungie?”
“Dad said you were sick yesterday, s’why I was alone at trick or treating, but I got you candies! A-and chocolate bars,” Taehyung says hurriedly, plopping down on the floor and placing down his pumpkin baskets loudly, “see? I brought another pumpkin basket for your share.”
Jungkook sleepily crawls off the bed, eyes sparkling at the mountains of candies in the pumpkin basket for him—for him! Taetae didn’t forget about him! “Taetae-hyungie, t-thank you!”
“Anything for my Super Kookie!” Taetae says happily, grinning and scooting closer, “hey, I saw your fort downstairs—it’s so cool! Can we play fort today?”
“Daddy made it, isn’t Daddy amazing?” Jungkook says proudly, grinning as Taetae claps his small hands in awe, “and okay! Let’s ask my Papa!”
“Cool! We’re going to play fort, and we’re going to eat all of our candies! And choco bars! A-and let’s watch Moana!”
Jungkook laughs, nodding his head as he hugs his pumpkin basket close to himself. He glances under his bed, smiling when he sees no monsters. Daddy scared the monsters, he had fun with Papa and Daddy yesterday, he doesn’t feel terrible anymore, and now Taetae-hyungie is here with candies and a promise to play fort—Jungkook feels super happy, he feels like Super Kookie again!)
