Rabbit Jack

Summary:

No one knows what he is. He's not a hero, or a villain. When you get to know him he's more like an illegal pharmacist of some type.

Notes:

This is the introduction to my illegal pharmacist vigilante Deku.
I hope you enjoy. Any more following this will be disjointed and random drabbles and oneshots about Izuku and his interactions with other characters

Work Text:

Who is Rabbit Jack?
Rabbit Jack, the mysterious new figure to grace the world of heroes and villains. Not much is known about this mysterious boy. Only that he wears a rabbit themed gas mask and a green hoodie. No one even knows what his quirk is, though some theorize that it may be related to the weaponized gases he uses in battle. He seems to prefer to play in the shadows as he has only been seen in public a few times. Many internet sources state that he is heavily involved in the black market and underground trading. This is all second hand information however, given by cyber heroes as this publication is strictly law abiding and these leads have come from several illegal websites and forums….

Midoriya Izuku closed the news tab as he took a long pull from the beaker of coffee at his side. It was midnight. Here he was in his lab after telling his mother he was staying at a friend’s house. He wasn’t sure his mother believed him. He didn’t actually have any friends after all. However she seemed content to let him be. After his dream of becoming a hero had been shattered by the number 1 hero in the world he had been lost and unfocused for quite a while. She seemed happy that he had regained his sense of purpose.
He could only wonder how she would feel, if she knew his purpose was manufacturing drugs and moonlighting as the mysterious figure known as Rabbit Jack. His new career was so far off the path of a hero it was laughable. What he did wasn’t all bad, but it wasn’t all good either.

His name, Rabbit for his appearance, Jack of all trades. He was the information broker, the drug lord, the quirk researcher, even the vigilante. Even without a quirk he was taking the world by storm. People were coming to him looking for solutions to their problems. And he would give it, for the right price of course.

The world could think he had some sort of chemical based quirk, but it was all just basic science. He learned quickly, so long as he put his mind to it. Nothing in this world should be obtained without effort. Not that the world agreed with him. Sometimes he entertained the thought that quirks had ruined this world, halting human advances as some thing began to come easily to some. They could have been exploring the far reaches of space by now if quirks hadn’t stagnated society.

He was running off on a tangent. The late hour and lack of sleep was getting to him. He ran another simulation on his latest formula only to get a failed result. What was wrong with it? His calculations were correct… there was just one thing missing but he couldn't for the life of him figure out what. He pinched the bridge of his nose, once again muttering in a constant stream of consciousness as he ran the numbers again, tweaking here and there until he got the desired result. If he got this right it should create a gas capable of temporarily disabling most fire quirks. At least ones that involved skin or lungs.

His phone rang and he picked it up; answering with an absent tone as he noted the time, 3 am.

“Rabbit.” He identified himself, leaning back in his chair. It was probably about time for a break anyway.

“You sound like you're half dead Doc. Shouldn't you be resting? Kids should have a structured bed time after all.” A familiar voice said, a mocking lilt to his voice.

“Shut up Shigaraki, what do you want?” Izuku kept his tone flat and emotionless, if only because he knew how much the other wanted to rile him up.

“I want all the information you have on the new students of U.A.” He said. Izuku sat up.

“What do you think I am some kind of miracle worker? I’ve got piss all. Wait until the sports festival when I actually have something I can work with.”

“ You’re the information broker. We can’t wait until the sports festival, we have big plans set for a week from now. Get whatever you can. I’m only asking because Kurogiri told me to.” Izuku sighed, a long breath out of his nose.

“Fine. I won’t be able to get you much but I'll see what I can do. As payment I want to know exactly what your plan is.”

“And what do you need to know that for?” Shigaraki asked a bitter tone of mistrust to his voice.

“Simple curiosity. Besides the info might come in handy one day. You know I don’t do anything without an incentive.” Izuku returned. He wouldn't do anything to disrupt whatever this was… unless it put the students in mortal danger.

“Why don’t you ask for money like a normal person.”

“I wouldn’t charge twelve yen for the shitty information I'm gonna be able to scrape up. Do you know how ridiculously tight U.A's security is? I'll be lucky if I can get the basics without getting caught.” Izuku said bitterly. That school took the privacy of their students ridiculously seriously.

“…Fine. When you drop of the information I'll tell you all about our plan. But you better not blab alright?” Shigaraki said, an unspoken threat in his voice.

“I won’t make promises. But nobody will ask if they don’t know to ask for it. That’s on you.” Sometimes Izuku wondered if being neutral was the right thing to do. A part of him was still so staunch in its goodness that it was an effort not to show favouritism.

“Then we have a deal.” His client said in lieu of a goodbye, hanging up the phone with a click. Izuku sighed. Hopefully his hacking skills would be up to the task. Surface information should be easy enough to get even with his mediocre skills. He would have to outsource anything else.

The USJ incident was an unmitigated disaster spread across every news platform available. The day was saved thanks to the faculty who were quick to notice something wasn’t right. Izuku was pleased to not that there was nothing to suggest involvement of an outside source. There would have been no stopping the rage Shigaraki would fly into if he found out that Izuku had been the one to tip off the principal and All Might before Iida Tenya was able to call for help. The masked drug lord hated when children were brutalized.
