Work Text:
There was light snow drifting across the sky. Ranpo was furiously plowing his way through the piles of snow upon the ground. The agency wanted him of all people to fetch the cake? How stupid. Luckily he ran into Poe along the way so he didn’t have to carry anything but himself! The two of them reached the building to find that the room was still being decorated.
Atsushi was struggling to put the star upon the seven feet tall tree. Dazai was hanging mistletoe at almost every doorway. Kenji was drooling at the table covered in piles of dishes that Kunikida was trying to arrange in an orderly fashion. The Tanizaki siblings were doing the usual in the corner as everyone subtly ignored the incest.
Seeing that everything was being dealt with Ranpo delivered the cake to Kunikida and dragged Poe to his desk covered in candy wrappers and books. “Ranpo-kun, I really ought to get going-”
“What are you talking about? It’s not like you were going to go anywhere except for home, right? Just stay here. While everyone else gets ready for the party you can give me some of your new mysteries!” Ranpo exclaimed with a grand smile. Poe blushed a little and reached into his bag, fetching the said novels. He was already planning to come sometime soon with these mysteries so he might as well stay.
Yosano kicked open the door carrying someone by the collar. He was struggling to break free from her monsterous grasp but was obviously failing. Yosano flung him forward towards Atsushi. “He was hiding out by the front door. Did you invite him?” she asked the tiger boy.
“Ah! Akutagawa, you came!” Atsushi abandoned the too tall tree to reach out for him. Dazai glanced over with a pondering hmm~ wondering if Chuuya even opened his invitation to this party. Akutagawa was madly blushing and sputtered out a “Of course I came you dolt! You went out of your way to invite me after all…” He got up and took the star from Atsushi. Using Rashoumon he placed the star at the top with a smug face.
As Akutagawa continued to help Atsushi decorate the tree, clients and friends starting to pile into the office. It was a big get together that wasn’t solely for the agency.
Kyouka walked into the room holding hands with a tall stunning woman. Dazai jumped off of his step ladder to greet her. “Ane-san~ did you give Chuuya my invitation?”
“Of course not,” she replied briskly. “Chuuya has a dinner meeting today and I saw no need to give him the option to see you of all people tonight. I myself only came because Kyouka kindly invited me.” Kouyou fondly looked down at the fourteen year old girl. Kyouka blushed a little and dragged Kouyou to the snack table for some cake.
Dazai disappointedly walked over to a group of clients, planning to flirt with them for the rest of the boring night. How could he have any proper fun without Chuuya? He really had hoped that Chuuya would have come. Sadly Kouyou had to betray his trust.
People cheered as Haruno walked into the room with the turkey. Everyone was chatting and playing board games. Fukuzawa sat off to the side petting Mii-chan observing everyone else. The room that usually contained grim news and troubles was now filled with festive spirits and joy. He smiled. It really was a wonderful time of the year.

Most of the guests had left by now. Atsushi was curled up next to Akutagawa. Kenji was finishing off the leftovers. Yosano and Kouyou were still drinking away.
Dazai glanced back at the group. No one appeared to be paying attention to him so he left. He pranced downstairs and proceeded to walk outside.
The air was chilly and snowflakes were gently falling from the deep gray clouds. There was a mixture of people walking around at this time. Your late night cram students, the groupies leaving parties, couples taking a stroll, and you’ve got your suspicious tall lanky fella a.k.a. Dazai.
Hands shoved down his pockets he walked through the deep snow. He hummed quietly to himself, after all you can’t do a double suicide alone. He approached a tall stylish apartment complex. He whipped out a key card and entered. He rose to the twenty-fourth floor. The door to an apartment slammed open.
“Took you long enough, bandage-wasting idiot.” A small red-headed man beckoned Dazai inside.
“Why didn’t you come to the party, Chuuya?” Dazai whined.
“I actually had work unlike some lazy bum.”
Chuuya smirked as they entered the room together. Even though they missed the day together the night was still young.
