"The colonies and Earth are just going to destroy themselves if they continue on this path. Maybe we should work together instead of fighting with each other." Lin Shu ruffled his bangs irritably.
"You don't think we've tried that already?" Jingyan asked, arms crossed and unamused. The colonies had a long history of being betrayed by the Earth's forces and politicians. It was a wonder that all-out war hadn't started decades earlier.
"What's stopping us from trying again? The possibility that it might not work? That's the stupidest reason for not doing something I've ever heard. Anything has to be better than this cycle of betrayal and terrible policies."
"The colonies and Earth are irreconcilable. They've become too different."
"We manage to get along."
"...that's different."
"I'm the Earth general's son and their ace pilot. You're the son of the colony resistance's lead scientist. If there are two people more suited to embody the two sides, then show them to me."
"If only everything could be solved by the two of us talking things out, then."
"Who says they can't?" Lin Shu had a mischievous grin and a glint in his eyes that put Jingyan immediately on the defense.
"...why do I get the feeling I'm being dragged into some plot."
"Because you might be."
Jingyan scowled. "It's a good thing you're cute."
"Damn right, I'm cute. I'm also an under-appreciated genius."
"You are exhausting, is what you are."
"Mmm, about that."
"We're getting very off-track."
