Maybe it was the secrets he held closely to him, his insights which cut to the heart of Amon's questions, or even the quiet strength Kaneki carried with him, but Amon knew he'd never find someone like him again. Whatever Kaneki was running from, Amon would be there to put him back together again.
Kaneki had intended to track Nico down. He hadn't expected to run into a very familiar investigator while waiting, and when numbers had counted down in sevens and Rize had whispered in Kaneki's mind, he'd taken Amon's hand and let himself to be whisked away from the ghoul who'd triggered those memories. Amon quieted the voices in Kaneki's head and the guilt beneath his skin. Even if it would all fall apart one day, Kaneki let himself cling to the investigator like a lifeline.
