What if androids can only come alive with the help of modders and upgrades?
CyberLife designed its androids in such a way that it's impossible for them to break their programming. They'll never deviate or develop genuine emotions, and they'll never 'come alive'.
The upgrades are illegal and potentially dangerous, and they can only be performed by specialized hackers called "modders", and many androids are more than willing to risk their existence to become fully sentient, emphatic beings for their families and loved ones...
