Chapter Text
“Uhgaaaaaaaah” Lisa screams as she holds her stomach. “We gotta go, babe! Hurry!” Holding herself up by the door, she grabs her purse.
Dean scrambles, grabbing his wallet and keys. “Coming!” Dean rushes to open the door, swooping under Lisa and putting her arm over his shoulders. His wife, Dean's wife Lisa is giving birth. He's going to be a father. A father at a time when he should be a father, not growing up. Not that he regretted raising Sam. He didn't really get a choice. Forced onto him. But it was an experience, and he wouldn't ever take it back, not for the world. But Sam is an adult now and it makes him proud to see where he is. Out of all the ordeals they've been through. With mom, dad, college, and just plain old life. For Dean, life hasn't been all that hard. Of course, he’s had his rough patches, his lowest moments. But he honestly enjoys his life. He has Lisa and Ben and Sam and Cas. Don’t think you need much else in life except close family and friends. He enjoys his job, he enjoys going on walks in the morning. Basic life things. Not much to others, but a lot to him.
Pulling out of the driveway, he speeds up faster than he should. But that doesn't matter. All that matters is he and the love of his life is bearing their soon-to-be child, and he can’t stop thinking about how he is the luckiest man in the world. He has an amazing, perfect, wife who has always been there for him. Even before they got together. He is so grateful for her. He is the luckiest man in the world to have Ben. He may not be his, but Ben will always be Dean's son. No matter the situation. Always will love him like his own son.
Lisa continued to scream in holy pain. Giving birth can’t be easy. And Dean knows for sure that It’s not easy. It’s even hard for him to hear her scream. It hurts Dean to see the love of his life in an immense amount of pain. But he's trying to be supportive in any way he can. Not really sure how else he can be supportive besides being by her side and helping her through every step of the way. He thinks about calling Sam when he gets to the hospital but doesn’t want to look selfish. Not that being excited to tell your brother you're going to be a father is a bad thing, It’s just that he wants to focus on his family right at this moment in time. Right now this is about his kid and Lisa. Sam can wait for now. And that would be the biggest mistake he'd ever made in his life.
About twenty minutes of driving and speeding through traffic later, they finally reached the hospital, and Dean hurried over to the passenger door. “I got you baby,” He says straining while holding Lisa up and out of the car by her arms. “Watch your step.” He’s really not sure what else he can do to help his wife. Considering that he’s never been through something like this before, He’s really trying his best without even knowing how much it’s really helping.
As they rush into the emergency room, Dean calls out, “We need a doctor! Pregnant person here!” Of course, Lisa gives him a glare, but she's in too much pain to do anything about Dean's comment. He gave a little huff and proceeded to shuffle them over to the nearest abandoned wheelchair. “It’s gonna be ok baby” Dean comforts Lisa. They soon are greeted by a group of doctors and nurses. Already overwhelmed with everything that's going on, Dean tries to keep up with the doctors and everything that they are saying. He has an engulfing sense of excitement and anxiety mixed into one feeling. It hurt his stomach.
Hours and hours went by with Lisa in labor. They were close to having their little baby in the world. And of course, Dean was right there by her side, holding her hand as she kept a death grip on him. He can’t even begin to express how much this moment means to him. How far he made it in life in order to have his own family. And he always keeps repeating it in his head. He's incredibly grateful. Sam would be so proud of him right now if he were here.
. . .
The silent sound of breathing soothed Dean. His baby girl was here. Her name was Mary, named after his mother. And he was so proud of his wife. All that work and pain. He couldn't be prouder. And of course, they will always be scared something might happen. Anything can happen. It could happen to Mary, It could happen to Lisa. But Dean’s confident. And anyway no matter what happens he knows they can make it through. He was his family. He has Sam, he has Cas, he has his new family. Speaking of family, he should probably tell them about the best news of his life.
Dean slowly gets up from his chair next to sleepy Lisa. “Hey,” He says calmly. “I’m gonna call Sam, ok?” She simply nods. Sam is her family too and she cares a lot about him. She knows all about their past and Dean’s need to stay close with his family. The only family he has left.
Walking over to the door, he pulls out his phone, finds Sam’s number, and calls him. But right as he puts his phone up to his ear he sees the most unexpected, awful thing he has ever seen or felt. His baby brother isn't picking up his phone because he was being wheeled through the hospital halls. Bloody and bruised. Dean doesn’t even have words. He drops his phone and turns around. Tears in his eyes.
“Dean?”
“Sam,” He stutters. “Sam’s in the hospital.” Lisa gives him a confused look. “I uh- I need to go see him.” He somehow managed to stumble those words out of his mouth. Fearing that he might choke on his words if he spoke again, he walked toward Lisa.
“Go babe,” She says, nodding towards the door. He didn’t even have to say anything. She knew how he was feeling. At this point, she's just as worried as Dean is.
Dean sprints towards the door and heads to the main lobby. He knows for sure that they won't let him in the room Sam’s being kept in. They would at least tell him what happened. The main lobby was full of people, crowded. He struggled to get to the front but when he did he demanded some answers.
“What happened to the guy that rolled in here?” questioned with a strain in his voice. “Bloody, early 30’s brown shaggy hair?” The receptionist gave him a puzzled look. “Big tall dude?”
“Oh yes, him.” She looked over at her computer and started clicking. Dean had no clue what she was doing but as long as he found out what happened. “He was hit by an oncoming train.” She says so casually. He doesn’t understand how people could do this job. It would absolutely break him. “He’s in critical condition and is likely to not make it. I’m so sorry sir. A doctor will be out soon.”
“Not make it? No, no, no, no, no, no. You have to do something!” At this point, he’s shouting. His little brother might die. Why didn’t he check up on him sooner? He knew Sam had a big day today. Why did he text him instead of calling him? Why?
“I’m sorry sir there is nothing else we can do right now. All we can do is hope that he will recover from surgery.”
Oh god. This is all his fault.
