Chapter Text
That evening, Bonnie makes her way out of the room she was in and down to the family area. Dressed in her jeans and a sweatshirt that she had stolen from Matt when they were still in highschool, she carefully looked around the room at everyone. Knowing that the interrogations, hostility, and accusations will start to be thrown at her. Bonnie carefully sits down and allows herself to let out a sigh while barely containing an eye roll.
“Can we get your questions and accusations out of the way now, so that I can leave and go back to my life?” Bonnie watches as Kol just barely hides his smirk and Rebekah’s lips just barely twitch in amusement. Elijah gives nothing away -of course-, Freya is watching with a calculated look, Hope is watching with - well hope -, and Klaus of course looks agitated and twitchy. She can practically see the hair trigger in him that is just so ready to rip her head from her body if she turns out to be a threat.
“Yes, Bonnie Bennett. Do tell us why you are here and what it was you did with the Hallow.” Bonnie’s eyes narrow at Klaus’s tone of voice, finding that the temptation to desiccate him is incredibly strong. Although, a woman’s voice stops her from doing so.
“She ripped The Hollow from you Klaus, all of it. Then she threw it into a prison world of her own making to eventually destroy it. So, in all reality you owe her your life… again. Not that you ever paid your debt before this instance and it would have been in Bonnie’s right to not even bother with you.” All eyes are drawn to the woman standing behind Kol’s chair, with her hands on his shoulders. Kol looks up at the woman with love in his eyes.
“Hello love.” She smiles down at him indulgently.
“Hi love.” They share a quick kiss. Bonnie watches as Klaus rolls his eyes in disgust and impatience. The woman, noticing the look of confusion and slight remembrance on Bonnie’s face: gives her a soft smile.
“Don’t feel bad for not remembering who I am. You were very juiced up on black magic when we met and parted. My name is Merra, I’m the woman that was with Kol when you were working on closing the veil to the otherside. You allowed Kol, a handful of others, and myself to come back to the land of the living.”
The lightbulb goes off in Bonnie as she studies the woman and Kol for a little while more. After all, they make a striking picture; a woman of Japanese descent with a man that has kept close to his Viking origins. Shaking herself out of studying the picture they make, she goes to say something. Though Klaus - of course it’s Klaus, he can rarely ever handle not being the centre of attention - shatters the relatively peaceful moment.
“Now that that little bit of information is over with. Care to answer my questions?” Bonnie gives him an unimpressed look at the threat in his words. As if he actually scares her anymore.
“I’m not a teenager anymore Klaus and I’m not some novice witch either. You don’t get to bully me around, scare me, or threaten me anymore. I can and will desiccate you if you push me. I came here because my ancestors and whatever leftover spirits that didn’t get voided out… wouldn’t leave me the hell alone, until I finally did something to help with Inadu. So, I made spells and I made a prison world to hold The Hallow.” A long sigh escapes Bonnie, but she doesn’t let her eyes waver from being locked with Klaus’s.
“I ripped all of The Hallow from you, so no more excuses for your actions anymore… Then I threw Inadu into the prison world I created. Until, I can find a spell that will destroy Inadu for good.” Bonnie rubs her dry eyes and looks to Hope. “To answer your questions… Yes, you are all safe from The Hallow, your father no longer has to die.” Turning her attention back to Klaus, she can’t stop herself from adding.
“Not that it wouldn’t do the world a favor if I had just let him die.” She follows those words with a tight smile and a very slight eye roll. Bonnie watches in amusement as his eyes narrow and his hybrid visage flashes across his face for a couple of seconds. Causing her to let out a mocking gasp and breathily say. “ Scaaaarrrrrrryyyy”
The snarl that escapes Klaus right before he charges her, makes Bonnie laugh. Even as she easily throws him backwards across the room with a well placed spell, - meant to take the momentum of something and throw it back at the originating point - calmly watching Klaus slam hard into a wall. Bonnie could hear varying levels of amusement escape the people gathered around.
“I thought that I already told you how I felt about your threats Klaus… Don’t make me repeat myself.” Klaus appears before her looking pissed as his jaw works, but after a few moments of studying her. Whatever he saw in her body language and eyes, sold it for him, causing him to stiffly nod his head and sit down.
“Great! Now if you don’t mind, I’m going to go pack up and leave this place and never return. Have a nice life.” Bonnie stands up and starts walking out of the room, only pausing to turn and mockingly salute the Mikaelson family. She doesn’t wait for their response, just swiftly disappears upstairs.
-----
Bonnie just finished zipping up her duffle bag and grabbing her car keys, when there is a knock on the open-door-frame. Bonnie gives a small smile as she senses who it is.
“Hope, what can I do for you?” She turns to face her, seeing hope standing in the doorway. Looking for all the world that something is wrong.
“How did you know it was me?” Bonnie breathes in deeply and sits down on the loveseat in the room, softly rubbing at one of her still aching runes. She waves for Hope to come in and sit down. Once she does Bonnie gets a little more comfortable, having a feeling that this conversation would take a while.
“I could sense your signature.” Seeing the confused look on Hope’s face, Bonnie expands on what she said.
“What I mean by signature is, everything that makes up Hope Mikaelson; the witch, the werewolf, the potentiality for vampirism, you as a personality, a mind, a soul. All of that coalesce into a whole, which is called Hope Mikaelson. I can sense you, your parents, your aunt and uncles. Everyone in this compound I can sense who they are, what they are, and how powerful they are. I don’t have to see them to be able to sense them.”
“That’s so cool! How do you do that? Can you teach me?!” Bonnie softly laughs at Hope’s enthusiasm and leans further into the loveseat.
“I could teach you that, it took me incredibly long to get the hang of it, even then… I’m still learning. But, Hope… I’m leaving, I’d rather not stay in a city where I’m constantly watching my back, worried that your father is going to try and take a bite out of me.”
Bonnie watches as Hope stares at her hands, looking very put out and disappointed. Finally, she looks at Bonnie, with tears clinging to her eyes.
“I need you to stay, please! My parents have started to send me to this school in Mystic Falls called ‘The Salvatore Boarding School for the Young and The Gifted’. But...” Hope hesitates for a split second, then waves her hand, causing the door to close. Bonnie feels a privacy spell cover the room, causing her eyebrows to raise… though she doesn’t comment on it, allowing for Hope to continue when she is ready.
“But, the teacher’s there… they can’t help me, no matter how hard they try… I- I’m past their reach. When I was growing up, before I triggered my werewolf. My magic was strong by itself, I already struggled with control. But, ever since my first transformation. I can’t seem to even do really simple spells without something going haywire.” Hope gives a self deprecating laugh.
“I’m honestly surprised that those two spells didn’t spiral out of control. I don’t know what exactly has happened to me and my magic, but it’s almost-”
“Feral now?” Bonnie has a knowing and understanding look in her eyes as she interrupts Hope.
“Yes! Please, Bonnie. I need your help. I’ve run out of options and I’m terrified that I’m going to hurt myself or someone that I love.” Bonnie takes a few moments to study Hope, but not just her. Everything that makes Hope Mikaelson, Hope Mikaelson. Bonnie is able to pinpoint the problem right away, seeing how the feral latent magic of Hope’s wolf is mixing strangely with Hope’s witch magic.
“The problem for you right now is that your wolf magic is incredibly feral, which is typical of werewolves. The only problem is that it is not mixing harmoniously with your witch magic. Causing all the problems with your haywire and hair trigger magic reactions. I can try my best to help you, though I make no promises that it will work. Hope, you have to be willing to really put in the work to do this. I can’t do it for you. I’ve done my own work, hell I’m still doing it. You also need to promise that you will give yourself grace when things don’t go exactly as you plan.”
Hope gives Bonnie such a big and relieved grin and throws herself at her. Pulling Bonnie into an extremely tight hug.
“Thank you, thank you, thank you!” Bonnie gives a shocked laugh as she hugs Hope back.
“Don’t thank me yet… You’re the one that is going to tell the rest of your family what is going on. I’m not dealing with Niklaus Mikaelson when he decides he wants to have a hissy fit.” Hope pulls from the hug with a laugh and easily agrees with an enthusiastic head nod and runs to the door, opens it, and disappears from view with a peep in her step.
Bonnie just snorts with a grin on her face and shakes her head. Knowing that this is going to be an interesting time frame. Though, that doesn’t mean that Bonnie isn’t going to make sure to enjoy every moment of it.
----
Only an hour later Bonnie is in the sprawling library, reading through her grimoire, she finds herself pausing in adding to it. She can’t figure out why she has stopped adding to it, that is until… Oh, there it is. The pissed yells of one Niklaus Mikaelson. Bonnie can’t stop the wicked grin that comes upon her face as she goes back to adding to her grimoire. This is going to be fun .
