Chapter Text
The table was hard and cold. He didn’t like it one bit.
Fortunately, Light’s brain picked up right where it had left off, whirling just a bit slower than usual. So… Kidnapped… Again… Fantastic.
The Omega knew better than to show any signs of wakefulness, so he covertly took stock of his condition, cataloging each limb with decreasing optimism and increasing dejá vu. The number of pain centers in his body since he was last conscious seemed to have multiplied. The ache in his ribs was familiar by now, but the sharp jabs in his arm and calf were new. So they got the trackers… More sharp pricks of pain in his other arm told Light that he was hooked up to at least one IV--which probably accounted for his sluggishness.
Besides that, he felt mostly achy. Though the marks on his neck were the good kind of sore, the rest of his musculoskeletal system felt like poop.
The other sensations in his vicinity included hard metal around his wrists, presumably cuffing him to the bed, and a sharp tang of aluminum on both sides that threatened to leach away what little body heat he had. Light realized what his body had known for some time: holy fuck it’s cold.
And he was naked.
Of fucking course.
Now that he noticed it, shivers racked through him relentlessly; Haru Hayashida had been right. The temperature couldn’t be more than fifteen degrees. Hadn't these people ever heard of blankets? Or pneumonia? Or maybe just leaving the damn Omega alone? What were they trying to accomplish? Freeze him into submission?
The cold wasn't the worst of it though.
Under the shivers, Light could feel it, deep in the pit of his belly, aching and uncomfortable.
Cramps.
Fuck. He was in pre-heat.
Light steeled himself, knowing that the moment he opened his eyes, he risked drawing attention. There was no scent of life, just bleach, so he swiftly let his amber gaze flash across the room before feigning sleep again. Empty, didn’t see any cameras… not that that means there aren’t any, but… The brunette risked raising his head to get a better look.
He was in a large, medical clean-room of sorts. One door, no windows, and--Light smirked. Idiots. They’d left him alone in a room with a computer. Of course there was very little chance it was connected to anything, but still… If he could get to it, L would--
The smile died on his lips.
L was dead.
L was…dead.
Thus far, the brunette’s had only let Kiyomi’s immenantly painful death float through his peripheral memories. He’d been blocking out the other points of importance about how he’d gotten here.
But when the world’s greatest detective’s pale face broke through the barrier Light didn’t even remember setting, the scene from the bridge came flooding back. The bullet hole. Perfectly aligned to kill the pilot. The detective’s voice that hadn’t once come over the coms after it appeared. Probably, and most likely, dead.
Light felt stinging in his eyes, because of course that was the one part of his body that hadn’t been hurting.
They were all probably dead. L. Watari. Near.
And Sayu.
And his father.
The kind of cold that had nothing to do with temperature settled into the Omega’s chest. They’d all taken bullets. Light swallowed back the surge of ugly emotion; it wouldn’t help him here. Only cold calculation would count for anything now.
He had to assume he was on his own. Matt and Gevanni wouldn’t be able to handle searching for him with the rest of the case, not on top of the fallout over the loss of the real L. And even if they found him, L was still--
Light slumped against the hard mattress.
A beeping sounded at the door-- so they had been watching --followed by the sound of latches releasing. It swung open.
“Good morning!” a red-scrubbed nurse chirped, before quite literally sashaying into the room. “You’re finally awake!”
Light clenched his jaw.
The man was lean and of average height, not particularly threatening, except for the creepy, bubbling energy permeating the space. A serological face mask hid everything about his face but dark eyes. The bastard skipped his way over to the bed, not pausing at all while he shone a sharp light into the Omega’s face. Light regretted jerking away, when he hit the cold bars on the other side.
“Tut, tut, tut,” the nurse chuckled, grabbing Light’s chin and holding him steady, “that won’t do. Not at all.”
He had a deep timbre, not enough to be an Alpha, and Light would have stopped at Beta, if it weren’t for the collar. Skin-tone and discreet, just big enough to cover the scent glands.
An Omega? What the fuck?
The man turned away messing with a tray behind the brunette’s head.
Light took a shaky breath, which only confirmed that his captor’s scent was indeed Omega, but it tasted synthetic on the back of Light’s throat. So a Beta pretending to be an Omega? Except Light had spent enough time masquerading as a Beta himself to recognize an Omega pretending not to be an Omega. So an Omega pretending to be a Beta pretending to be an Omega?
What the fuck?
It was more concerning that nutcase was doing a damn good acting job. The brunette grudgingly gave the Yggdrassills a sliver of credit for the unexpected.
Not that any of this meant Light had faith in this man’s medical training. Mind games or not, an Omega nurse was too forward of a concept for the backwards Alpha fucks of the Yggdrassill pack. (Sayu, and the bullet she took, flashed through his mind.)
At least he wouldn't have to deal with any domination bullshit while the nurse played out his act. Small comforts, Yagami.
The nurse hummed to himself, oblivious to Light’s scrutiny, as he snapped on a pair of latex gloves and spun back around.
“Alrighty, I’m going to make sure you’re nice and healthy and then get you set up with your first dose! Aren’t you excited?”
Oh fuck you.
The sound of ‘dose’ had Light’s stomach churning. It had to be XoXo. Images of FR18B0X flashed in his head. Light did not like where he saw this going.
The black-eyed Omega continued smiling widely as he bounced around the lab, collecting supplies and singing to himself. He’s insane… but, maybe that means he’ll talk…
“Dose of what?” Light asked tentatively, angling for ignorant and helpless.
The nurse giggled--he actually fucking giggled . “Don't worry your pretty little head! The brainiacs upstairs made it. You’ll love it!”
I’d rather you just shoot me. But at least Light had confirmation of what was going into him. Hopefully, he’d get the chance to tell a real nurse what was in his system and get fucking cured before he ended up anything like this guy.
The nurse advanced on his table and the brunette cringed as he saw the other wielding a syringe. This bastard was apparently just the next in the long line of people wanting to stab things into him. He grabbed Light’s elbow and felt around for a vessel.
“Here we go!” he cheered, pushing the syringe into Light’s vein and compressing the plunger.
Light only barely remembered to sound scared, changing his growl into a whine. “What was that?”
“Oh, don’t worry. Just some happy hormone levelers. It’ll help get rid of these pesky claims that big bad Alpha gave you,” the nurse cooed, stroking his fingers down Light’s neck. The dark eyes flashed as his fingers passed over each one of the marks.
Light glared. L’s claims were probably the only reason he hadn’t been raped half-a-dozen times already, and if they were an inconvenience for these assholes, so much the better.
The nurse pulled his fingers back, eyes snapping back to Light’s face. “With a little bit of muscle relaxant.” His eyes crinkled in a grin. “Should keep you nice and pliable! Gotta make sure we get this right so you’ll make your new Alpha happy!”
How had the Yggdrassills not strangled him yet?
The nurse proceeded to prod and poke at him, moving through each of his many injuries. He was mercifully gentle around the purplish-black area on Light’s torso, but that didn’t make it any better that this stranger ran his hands all over him.
It was almost like --fucking ow! Wait! --it was exactly like the physicals he had with Rem (except he could move in those). The bastard had to have worked for a mating agency. Most reps were Betas, but for a select few bonded Omegas. Light felt bile rise in his throat. Those agents had direct access to at least fifty cases, and indirect access to every other Omega in Japan.
Fuck.
Eventually, the nurse finished with Light’s front, and unlocked his right handcuff to roll him onto his side, re-cuffing him to the other side. He unceremoniously dragged the other arm so that Light flopped like a fish onto his stomach.
Light hissed, reevaluating his escape strategy. This other Omega was strong.
The nurse was thorough with his poking, making comments about the aesthetics of the lines of Light’s shoulders. The hands moved south, stopping at every vertebrae, until the nurse was spreading his asscheeks.
“Gotta confirm you’re still a virgin,” the man muttered, sounding serious for the first time since he walked in and pushing his finger a little too forcefully for Light’s comfort. “You are, aren’t you?”
None of your goddamn business. Light grit his teeth, heating the way his preheat cramps reacted to the intrusion. And shouldn’t you already know that?
“Shit! You aren't!” the nurse screeched.
The bastard sounded more panicked than was really warranted, given that Light knew he didn’t give an actual fuck about a captive Omega's wellbeing. The brunette looked over his shoulder to see the nurse standing there looking horror-struck.
He ripped off a glove and whipped out his phone, probably texting out an urgent memo.
“That will bring your market value down significantly,” he muttered, robotically. “But don't worry, we’ll still find you a home. There are plenty of generous Alphas who are more than willing to be lenient with their Omega’s transgressions.”
Transgressions? Seriously bitch? But, oddly, the guy didn’t seem to know about Light’s past. (He also didn’t seem to know he had Kira naked on a table either.) Either the bosses didn’t trust a lowly Omega ‘nurse’ with that kind of intel, or things inside the Yggdrassill pack were more volatile than either Kira and L had realized. Given that the nurse was always going to violate him, seemed like the former.
“You know?” Light offered innocently, “I think I’d be just fine without an Alpha.”
The nurse dropped the phone and Light swore the temperature dropped another five degrees. The man advanced on the table, hand jutting out to pin Light’s throat. Light couldn't help the growl that slipped out. The nurse leaned down.
“We both know you don't actually mean that,” the crazy man breathed. “Whore.”
What the fuck? The brunette jerking forward in his restraints so that the were nose to nose. Light growled, “Try me.”
This nurse’s eyes bored into Light, and Light glared back. Neither moved for several seconds of silence, before--
“No! Nononono-NO!” the Omega shouted, lunging forward and tackling the brunette to the bed, cupping his cheeks in both hands this time. Light hissed at the strain it put on his neck. “Bad people will take advantage of you! You need an Alpha!”
So we’re playing the game again? “You mean you and your Alphas aren’t those bad people?” Light spat archly.
If this been an Alpha, Light wouldn't have risked the back talk. But this asshole was clearly screwing with him. Though in the back of his mind, Light believed the deadliness in the other's voice before had been real. This man might kill him just for fun.
“No! No! We’re trying to help you!” The nurse, and Light fought back the bile. This close the other Omega smelt of lilac. “We want you to be happy! That's all we’re trying to do! Help Omegas find and bond and bear pups for their Alphas!”
He stared into Light’s eyes, manic smile hidden behind the mask. Light felt the man’s nose brush his--payback for Light’s earlier challenge.
Light hissed. Back the fuck up. Now.
“The XoXo will help you make your Alpha so happy!” the nurse babbled, stroking his cheek. “It’ll help you bond with him, bear large litters, and then he’ll keep you safe…” The sugary tone dissolved back into its menacing counterpart as the nurse brushed his lips against Light’s ear. “You know, I’m actually a little jealous of you.”
How. Fucking. Dare. You. You psycho. You really think I’ll bond with one of them?
“Well,” the nurse bounced back, “since you’re not a virgin, I guess I don’t have to worry about scratching you up any. Let’s take a looksie.”
He dropped his grip on Light’s face and skipped of the bed towards the tray.
Light clenched his jaw, bracing his forehead on the bed, choosing to ignore the man. Of course the awful sensation of the bastard jamming the cold metal object into his ass couldn’t be ignored, and Light bit back another growl. Rem only did this part once a year, but never this forcefully.
His psycho-nurse cranked the speculum a bit, stretching about as much as the toys Light used during his heat. It was a bad sign that the toys crossed his mind, since Light usually only allowed himself to remember the silicon dildos existed when he absolutely had to. Thinking of them now was an unfortunate indicator of how close the heat was.
A crash behind him brought Light back to horror film playing out around him, as the tin tray crashed to the ground.
“Shit you’ve had an abortion!” the nurse shrieked.
Light raised an eyebrow. What did you think not being a virgin meant? He didn’t bother responding, since the nurse seemed to be talking to himself now.
“Well,” the nurse said, returning to task, “At least it wasn’t recent.” He prodded a bit more. “In fact, it looks like you haven't had sex in sometime…” The prodding grew insistent. “That's good…that's very good…” the nurse muttered.
Whatever the bastard was debating, Light wished he would just get it over with. He could feel a slipperiness forming due to the intrusion and needed the violations of his person to stop before they triggered something Light really didn't want to happen.
The nurse’s volatile mood swung again.
“Well! You’re in decent childbearing shape for now. But who would do such a terrible thing to such a pretty Omega?” he cooed, patting Light’s ass.
I asked for it you bitch. Light made sure not to react. At least his head was pointed towards the computer. It had an ethernet cable, which meant a network, which meant Kira had unprecedented access. The Yggdrassills hadn’t anticipated on letting the vigilante himself into their lair (at least not while still breathing), and they were going to regret it.
“Alright, I’m going to take some pretty pictures. Gotta make sure you’re new Alpha’s happy with you! Some buyers might be picky.”
Light tried not to gag. He gasped, as the cold metal finally slid out of him. Several clicks indicated the nurse was taking his photos.
“Okie dokie. That's that.” The nurse smacked his ass. “ I’m going to get you set up! They like to administer at least one dose when you’re conscious, so they make sure you don’t die. You’re getting the latest cocktail, so you should feel really, really lucky!”
The nurse flipped Light back onto his back, wrists recuffed, and wheeled over a new IV. Light recognized the symbol in the corner. It was the same as the one he’d seen in that freight container. They truly meant to drug him into oblivion.
Fuck.
“Hold still now. I don’t want to leave any bruises.”
Of course not. Why would we want that? Six claiming bites, two broken ribs, two gouge wounds, and two IV bruises are fine, but one more needle mark and we’ll have a problem.
The nurse leaned over to swab his elbow, and Light saw his chance.
The syringe.
The one the nurse had used to inject the muscle relaxant was still sitting loosely in the man's lab coat pocket. It was close. Light slid his hand towards it, being careful not to jangle the cuff. It was hard to control his limb, but he only had a moment.
Almost…
The nurse found a vein an jabbed.
Just a bit… Light’s fingers found the tip. yes!
Light quickly retracted his fingers and tucked the cold glass barrel under his hip, being careful to keep the tip canted and not to stab himself. The Omega held perfectly still for the rest of the procedure, even when the nurse pushed the IV in.
Clear fluid slid down the tube, disappearing into his arm. How long would it take before he was a useless pile of flesh on the floor? He couldn’t feel anything just yet.
“Alright, one down. No trouble so far. You’re vitals are good, no immediate swelling. Good… You may have a small autoimmune reaction later, but right now… Perfect. This is the first dose; we’ll check your titers titers in three hours, just to make sure this cocktail is taking hold. If it is, you'll be ready to meet your new Alpha tomorrow!”
Take hold? What the hell did that mean?
“Since you didn’t seize, I’m going to go ahead and sedate you.”
Light felt the prick of a second IV, right near the first and this one he felt. Damn it. Have to get it… out…
The nurse gave him a happy smile, before whipping up the chart and heading towards the door. He paused and called back over his shoulder, “Don’t worry Light. I’m sure they’ll give you exactly what you deserve.”
Light growled, but it came out as more of a moan. He had maybe five seconds before he was out cold.
His vision swam. Pick it… you practiced…. picking… in your… sleep… for th… He wriggled his hand out of the cuff and tried to maneuver his arm. So… fucking heavy… Light’s free arm flopped across his abdomen, brushing at the needles piercing his skin just below his left elbow…
Almost….
Al...most.
“We come to you live with a breaking news update on the sad story of Nihonbashi, where two Omegas were abducted after a shootout with NPA officials in what is being called a ‘failed sting operation’. We’ve been covering the story of the Yagami siblings’ disappearances from the Nihonbashi Bridge since Saturday night, when unidentified snipers opened fire on a bridge full of detectives and emergency personnel.
In a shocking move earlier this morning, Misa Amane, Alpha and noted supermodel, stepped forward, demanding the return of Light Yagami, who she claims to be her Omega. Misa Amane will be joining us shortly, but first, let us go to our Omega Mating Expert, Kurisu Makise.
.
Makise-san, what can you tell us about these claims Misa Amane is making?”
“Well, I’d say that’s a question for Light Yagami.”
“Yes, well, there’s a great many things we would like to ask Light Yagami. But that can only happen if he’s recovered alive.”
“Light Yagami has been missing for over seventy-two hours. We all know the odds of recovering an abducted Omega are never good, and becomes nearly impossible after the first twelve.”
“With all due respect, Makise-san, we at Sakura TV are praying that you’re wrong. But, back to Misa Amane’s story.”
“Of course.”
“So, firstly. Do you think an Alpha stepping forward to say that a missing Omega is practically mated to her is in the Omega’s best interest?”
“Not at all. The best case scenario is that Misa Amane’s assertions will go unnoticed. No Alpha wants to hear that the Omega they want is claimed by someone else. Misa Amane’s statements could potentially hurt Light Yagami’s chances of survival, if the Alphas that kidnapped him are particularly possessive.”
“But she’s offering a significant ransom for his release.”
“Well, the wisdom of offering an unasked for ransom is the NPA’s department. It is possible the bad guys might want the money more than they want Light. It’s been about two hours since Amane announced her offer, so the police have be waiting to see what response she gets.”
“True. But, now, the most important question we want to know, does Misa Amane have a legitimate claim on Light Yagami?”
“Legally, no. We know she has been courting Light for a little over a two months now. That’s a confirmed fact. They are still courting. They are not mated and Light is not claimed. However, where Misa does have a case is that most Omegas choose to mate after two or three sessions with their Alphas. It’s unsurprising that Amane feels confident that Light Yagami was showing strong preference for her if they’ve met five times. That’s what it looks like on the surface, but the hard truth is that, in our mating system, the Omega needs to explicitly choose the Alpha. Light Yagami hasn’t done that yet. Whether he intended to, is open for debate.”
“But if he didn’t intend to mate with her, why would he keep meeting with her?”
“That is a good question, and certainly supports Misa Amane’s claims--sorry, I’m referring to claims of intention to mate, not an actual claim on Light Yagami--just to be clear.”
“Of course. Thank you, Makise-san. We now go live to Supermodel Misa Amane, who last night offered one billion yen for the return of Light Yagami. Misa Amane? Wha-”
“I want my Light back! We were so happy and had so many plans! He was going to meet my producer and we were going to do a shoot together for the cover of KERA and he was so excited to move in and-and! He’s the most important person in the world to me! And I just want him back!”
“Misa, I hope for your sake, you get him back. But, offering one billion yen, without knowing who has your Omega…? And without the support of the NPA…? That’s a risky move.”
“I don’t care. Light is mine and whoever took him should know that.”
“Are you at all concerned about what Light wants?”
“Light didn’t want to be kidnapped and I’m sure he would want me to do everything I can to save him.”
“What about his sister? Would you be willing to pay her ransom as well?”
“Of course! I’d do anything for my Light. And she’s going to be my sister too. I would never leave her with bad Alphas-”
“Thank you Misa, but I’m going to have to cut you off. Our producer has just informed us that the press conference regarding the case of the Yagami siblings later this morning is starting. The NPA has been uniformly silent up until now, but we have just heard that L himself is stepping in to take the case. Just to remind our audiences, L hasn’t taken a case in Japan in over nine years, when he solved the Butcher of Okinawa case in just three days. Can the world’s greatest detective save Light Yagami? Our field reporter, Hisashi Morooka will be standing by, and will be sure to ask the questions we all want to know. What is being done to recover Light and Sayu Yagami? What really happened on Nihonbashi Bridge? And most importantly, is there hope for these two Omegas?”
L glared at the face filling his screen. Light put this bastard away…
Shishio Yggdrassill didn’t seem to be taking prison too harshly. The gigantic, bald Alpha looked to be immune to the uglier aspects of prison life. He sat on the interrogation chair like the king of the underworld he knew he was.
The detective’s cell vibrated against his thigh, and L paused his assessment of Yggdrassill to check. Matt’s press release was out; the Yagami family was officially deceased. Misa Amane is about to have a very bad day. L pocketed the phone again with a satisfied growl. That Omega expert had been correct; she might have gotten Light beaten or killed.
L returned his attention to the snake in the monitor.
The mob boss only let a brief flicker of confusion escape past his smiling facade, as the guards turned on the laptop screen and departed without a word. One click of a button button, and that smug sneer will disappear.
The ornate, gothic ‘L’ filled the screen, and the detective had the satisfaction of seeing the face of the head of the one of the most powerful packs in the world draw in instinctual fear. Yes. I am very scary.
The large Alpha hid the emotion quickly, pulling out the mask of the suave businessman who had fooled the world for decades.
“L himself? You flatter me,” Yggdrassill greeted cordially.
If the man could see L’s bare feet and baggy jeans, he may have skipped such niceties. L always did.
“Where are the Omegas?”
Yggdrassill’s eyes widened. “I’m afraid I don’t know what you’re talking about.” He smiled. “I say this as a courtesy, of course. If you wish to continue this conversation, we will have to wait until my lawyer arrives.”
“You misunderstand of the situation, Mr. Shishio Yggdrassill. Your lawyer is not coming. I will ask again. Where are the Omegas?”
The mob boss frowned. He knew of course that the World’s Greatest Detective had privileges. L watched Yggdrassill count how many prison guards he had in his pocket versus how many L had. He reached the conclusion much quicker than most criminals.
“Very well,” Yggdrassill said, “Though I really have no idea what you are talking about. As I have told everyone--repeatedly--I have no idea how those Omega’s ended up in my trunk. I believe they simply playing a harmless prank on their Alphas.”
He knew L did not believe him. And L knew he knew. This was just the opening move.
“Your illicit relationships with underage Omegas is not what I am here to discuss, but since you seem to have forgotten, allow me to refresh your memory. You kidnapped three underage Omegas, locked them in windowless rooms, and raped them repeatedly. Your DNA confirms this. Now that that misunderstanding has been resolved, let us return to the topic at hand. Where are the Omegas?”
“Detective, I have been in prison for the last nine months.” Yggdrassill glanced around at the stones surrounding him, smiling and shaking his head. “Anything outside these walls is…outside my purview.”
“Neither your lies nor those walls will not protect you from me.” The suspect’s eyes tightened. L continued, “Perhaps you are confused. I will ask smaller questions. Where is Sayu Yagami?”
Genuine confusion flashed across the man’s face, as L knew it would. With his real reactions on tape, the man would no longer be able to fake it. And Yggdrassill realized it. Glad we got that out of the way.
“I am sure I don’t know what you’re talking about,” Yggdrassill answered.
“Then we will discuss your son.”
To his credit, the mob boss didn’t try offer false confusion again. “What about my son?”
“Tell me,” L asked, “How do you think Ryuk would react if he learned Light Yagami had a new mate?”
Yggdrassill spread his hands palms up, shrugging. “Six years ago, my son’s mate is suffered a tragic head injury that has confused him into saying terrible lies. If he has chosen to whore himself out, rather than remain faithful to his true mate, then I can only pray for an end to his suffering.”
The first mistake.
“I asked how you thought Ryuk would react.”
“He would be saddened by his mate’s weakness,” Yggdrassill answered surely.
L sipped his tea. The second.
“And what about the rest of your pack? How would they react?”
“I imagine they too would be saddened by the failures of the Omega,” said the large Alpha.
“Does Koko Shintaro look saddened to you?”
The letter L disappeared from the screen Yggdrassill saw, replaced with the scene from the mating agency. L let the video roll watching the chained Alpha fight to hide his reactions. You did not know. On screen, Koko asked Light about bonding. Even without sound, L knew the man heard what she asked.
“Is such insubordination common in your house, Mr. Yggdrassill?” inquired L. Did you expect they would obey you, even from prison?
Yggdrassill ran his tongue across his lips and took a breath, before he switched his gaze back to the laptop’s camera. “I am sure Koko believes she is simply protecting the pack’s interests.”
“If I told you Light Yagami was in her custody right now, how hard do you think you would need to pray to protect his virtue?”
“I thank you for your concern about my family,” Yggdrassill snapped. He took another deep breath. “Rest assured, my heritage is secure and Koko will be dealt with.
“And if your prayers go unanswered?” L pressed. He was 89% sure; he just needed to push the prisoner a little father. “Who will control Japan’s pack? You have said yourself, Light Yagami is the heir’s mate. If he’s mated to Koko Shintaro, does that not make her the heir?”
The chained Alpha didn’t answer. But L saw the tick of his jaw and the throb at his temple. On another subject, Mr. Yggdrassill: How long will Shintaro let you live after she takes control? The video ended, and the gothic L returned.
“I will ask you again, Mr. Yggdrassill. Where are the Omegas?”
Yggdrassill straightened, eyes studying the table before they flicked up.
“Did you know that the little cunt cried for you? Ryuk used to tell me stories. About how that Omega would scream in his sleep, begging for the great and powerful L to save him. Did you?”
L’s grip tightened on the mouse, waiting.
“You’re a fool if you think a petty mating dispute will destroy my family. Ms. Shintaro will soon find that the Yggdrassill name is not something to tamper with. And, if you think that I am somehow… controlling the situation, that I am some supervillain reaching out beyond the bars of his cell, then let please me correct you. I won’t have to lift a finger.”
And L waited.
“Not even you, L, can stop nature from taking its course. My son’s property will be retrieved, and he will learn which name he should hopelessly cry out for at night. The Yggdrassill family will prevail. I am sorry I cannot help you further, Great Detective--”
The third mistake.
“Your cooperation has been more than satisfactory. Thank you for the information.”
Another bout of genuine confusion overtook Yggdrassill’s face. “And what information is that?”
“You have confirmed that Ryuk Yggdrassill is indeed dead. Thank you.”
The laptop screen went dark. In the cell, the camera showed Shishio Yggdrasil's crazed wrath.
It didn’t help. L’s blood flowed cold in his veins.
On October 31, 2020, L had been in Los Angeles, finishing the BB Murder Cases. Watari kept a log of every case L took…and every case he didn’t. All L had to do was open the file and he would know.
In the end, you had to save yourself, didn’t you?
