Chapter Text

(G)I-dle’s Jeon Soyeon and Song Yuqi have been fighting for months – Insider reveals all

It went really viral. Like super viral. Of course, there was no insider. And the article was only a few observations, no real substance. But people had started to notice how two of (G)I-dle’s closest members suddenly had almost no time for each other. She couldn’t blame people for being suspicious when Yuqi and Soyeon hadn’t shared a single I-talk scene together, and their interactions on stage had completely ceased. She honestly felt bad for the fans who missed their interactions, but she felt worse for herself, who had actually managed to lose her best friend and her something else.

The article was the straw that broke the CEO’s back, in terms of intervening in their fight. He had known and worked with Soyeon closely for much longer than Yuqi and had tried some gentle nudges, urging Soyeon to forgive Yuqi – she had heard this from staff. But apparently one look from Soyeon and he shut right up. This was no surprise, he was always spineless for a CEO. And always slightly scared of Soyeon, even though he had mentored her for as long as she was a trainee. Soyeon and Yuqi used to laugh about that sometimes. That felt like forever-ago now.

So he had called them into a meeting. A dinner at the restaurant opposite the company. Maybe he had thought the calm atmosphere would ease the tension between the girls. Yuqi definitely felt tension, all down her spine, but if Soyeon felt any, she wasn’t showing it. Stoic as ever.

Both the girls were quiet. With just the CEO and Soyeon there, she wasn’t sure she could be her normal self. Both the girls just listened to his lecture about public appearances and not letting personal lives impact public image. It wasn’t the first time Soyeon or Yuqi had heard the speech but he was definitely more serious this time. He seemed to really care.

“You two are some of the best talent I’ve ever produced and together, you’re even more special. I don’t know exactly what happened between you, but don’t let an argument get in the way of a beautiful friendship. Yuqi stole a glance at Soyeon, I mean, all the power really was in her hands. She was definitely listening but it was so hard to tell if she was listening.

“I hear you, CEO-nim. We’ll sort it out.” Was all she said. Yuqi wasn’t sure what exactly she was agreeing to but she nodded her head anyway. He seemed somewhat satisfied.

They spent the rest of the meal attempting a casual conversation. Soyeon and Yuqi still weren’t directing any comments to each other, so it was almost like they were simply taking turns being interviewed about their personal lives by the CEO. It was awkward to say the least. She knew that the CEO had had enough by the pace in which he was eating his food.

“I’ll get the bill. Yuqi, you have a schedule, right?” Wow, he was really sick of them if he was basically telling them to leave before he even paid the bill. He wasn’t ever that bothered with punctuality.

“Okay, CEO-nim, thank you for the meal. We’ve heard you, right Yuqi?” Soyeon finally looked her way.

“Y-yeah.” She couldn’t conceal her surprise.

“Glad to hear it. I’ll be in touch.” And with that he turned his back completely and made his way to the host stand.

“Come on.” Soyeon must’ve seen Yuqi’s dumbfounded, what-do-we-do-now expression. She turned and led Yuqi out of the restaurant by the wrist to where her driver was waiting. She assumed Soyeon was going back to the company to work on music. She didn’t want to ask, fearing a simple comment would throw off this apparent tranquility. The lunch had been awkward, sure, but she didn’t receive one glare from Soyeon the whole time. And she seemed genuine when she told the CEO that they’d ‘sort it’. Whatever that meant. But it was something. Hope.

“Yuqi.” Soyeon caught her attention before she climbed in her car. Yuqi only turned around with wide eyes and anticipation.

“Come here.” Soyeon opened her arms. Yuqi stood in shock so Soyeon had to move to wrap them around her. The contact finally woke her up. And it really did feel like she was waking up for the first time in months, from some sort of treacherous nightmare where Soyeon hated her. Yuqi quickly readjusted to wrap her arms tightly around Soyeon, relishing in the way their bodies still seemed to fit together perfectly. Yuqi was about to nuzzle her face into Soyeon’s neck, a content smile beginning to form when she whispered.

“Smile… you’re on camera.”

And that was that. Any hope that was filling up Yuqi’s chest after months of emptiness disappeared as quickly as it had appeared. She could actually feel the physical pain in her chest. Suddenly the arms wrapped around her body were covered in thorns and they left her bleeding. Yuqi scanned their surroundings, her contented smile already forgotten. She heard the shutter before she saw the flash.

Notes:

(if you haven't watched hacks, you should!) hope you enjoyed the pain! ik it might feel slightly incomplete but i wasn't sure how i would extend it and i'm in the trenches of creative block rn. let me know if you have any thoughts or requests or whatever! <3

Notes:

this could be all one chapter length-wise but i prefer formatting it in chapters so
