Chapter Text

“She just told you to leave?” Vision nods at his friend, not making eye contact. “Man, that sucks… I mean… did she at least maybe believe you?”

“It doesn’t matter Stark. She doesn’t want me anywhere close to her or her children and I don’t blame her. She made a choice when she chose to be anonymous all those years ago and so did I. I have no part in their lives now. No matter how… how much I regret my decision.” Vision stands from his chair, crossing to Tony’s tall glass windows looking out over Manhattan. “I should’ve never let you talk me into donating.”

“I was just trying to help you, buddy.” Tony sighs and stands as well. “What was her name again?”

“Wanda.”

“Wanda what?”

“Maximoff,” Vision replies behind him and turns around. “Why?”

Tony shrugs, frowning slightly. “No reason…”

“I should get going. Tell Pepper I said hello.”

Wanda paces her kitchen back and forth, her eyes staring at her phone laying on the counter. There was no way in hell this man was the father of her boys. She had called Manhattan Fertility Clinic five times since Vision had left her house; all calls going to their answering machine and with each time she left the same voicemail, “Hi, this is Wanda Maximoff, I was a patient there around four years ago. I know when I was looking for a sperm donor, I asked to be anonymous, and the donor I used was also anonymous, but if by any chance you can please give me some sort of information on this man, please let me know.”

Wanda lays a hand on her chest, her breathing quick, and then suddenly she hears her phone buzz. She reaches for it quickly, not even looking at the number and answers, “Hi? Hello?”

“Wanda Maximoff?” A man says into the phone.

“Yes, yes, it’s Wanda. Is this the Manhattan Fertility Clinic?” She asks, and hears a loud cry from the other room, a clear sign that Billy had fallen.

“This is Tony Stark.” Wanda’s heart drops suddenly. Fuck.

“Can I call you back? My kid is crying and I need to go check on him.”

“This will only take a second, Wanda,” Tony states and Wanda walks into the living room, her phone glued to her shoulder as she picks up a crying Billy. “I’m friends with Victor Shade; which you may already know that… anyways, Vision and I, after your first date were discussing the date and he told me you were a mother. Congratulations and all that jazz… Now, I know he did tell you that he thinks he was your sperm donor-”

“Oh my god!” Wanda’s mouth drops open. “Are you joking? How crazy are you?”

“On a scale from 1-10? A solid 8?” Wanda hears laughing across the phone. “Look, Maximoff, I’m not trying to get into your business, but I just want you to know that Vision isn’t joking or lying. He really did donate four years ago. To the same fertility clinic that you used. I can vouch for him because I told him about the place.” Wanda swallows. “Vision’s a good guy. He’ll stay out, he’ll act like he never met you if he see you on a street if that’s what you want; but Vision is one of the nicest people you will ever meet,” Tony sighs. “I’m sure he wouldn’t mind taking a DNA test if that’s what you’d want. And before you ask, he didn’t put me up to this.”

Wanda is silent for a moment and then, “Okay.”

“Okay? What do-”

“I want a DNA test.” Wanda swallows down the lump rising up her throat. “He is a good guy. He deserves to know… I deserve to know.”

“You did what?!”

Tony holds his hands up in defense. “I was just trying to help you out.”

“How many times have I told you to stay out of my business, Tony?!” Vision growls. “She’s going to think I’m insane!”

“No, she doesn’t think that. I told her that you didn’t put me up to it.” Vision rubs his face, exhausted. “She wants a DNA test.”

Vision drops his hands. “What?” Tony opens his mouth to speak but Vision’s phone rings and he picks it up. “Hello?”

“Vision?” Wanda asks. “Hey, it’s Wanda.”

“Wanda? Hi... How are you?” Vision shoos Tony out of the room.

“I’m good… Vision, I’m really sorry for the way I acted the other day… I was in the wrong and I apologize… You aren’t crazy.”

“Wanda, you don’t have to apologize. I was in the wrong. I overstepped a boundary and I am so sorry. There was a reason you chose to be anonymous and I crossed that boundary, Wanda…”

“I-I…” Wanda takes a deep breath. “I don’t think it was a coincidence, Vision.” Vision’s mouth falls slightly open. “It has to be you… Of course, I-I would like a DNA test but… god, it has to be you.”

“Yes, yes, of course. Absolutely.”

———————————

“Mr. Shade?”

“Hello? Hi, this is Mr. Shade.”

“Hi! This is Linda with the Manhattan Fertility Clinic, how are you?”

“I’m good… how are you?” Vision rubs his hands on his pants, his palms becoming increasingly sweaty. Vision turns his phone to speaker.

“Good, good. We were just calling to let you know we do have the results on your DNA test for the Maximoff case and we were going to see if we could go ahead and give you that information over the phone?”

“Of course, of course.” Vision sits down beside Wanda. They had arranged to go to Wanda’s house the day of the results so they could both be informed.

“Okay, well, congratulations Mr. Shade, you are the father of the Maximoff twins.”

Vision’s lips curl up into a wide grin and he looks to Wanda who has taken a deep breath. “Okay, thank you so much. Have a nice day.”

“You too. If we can help with anything else please let us know.”

“Thank you… bye.” Vision hangs up and turns to Wanda who suddenly grins back at Vision. “Oh my god…”

“Congrats!” Wanda laughs softly and throws her arms around him. He holds her close, feeling the beating of her heart. She pulls back. “You-you can be as involved or not involved as you want… Maybe start slow, if you want to be involved. Or if you don’t want to, that’s perfectly fine-” Wanda reels.

“Wanda, Wanda, I want whatever you want. I want to be involved but only if you are okay with it.” Vision takes her hands in his. “I know we’ve only known each other for a short while and I don’t want to make you or your boys feel uncomfortable.”

Wanda smiles softly, squeezing his hands. “I want you to be involved… maybe baby steps. Maybe I can get to know you a little bit better… Maybe, we can go get coffee? Then… maybe sometime… when we both feel like we’re ready to introduce you to the boys, then we can.”

Vision brushes a piece of hair out of her eyes. “I would love that.”

—————————

A month flies by in an instant. Vision and Wanda share a few more dates before she feels comfortable with Vision meeting the boys. They don’t tell them immediately; only telling them that Vision is a friend of their mom. They both warm to him quickly, always asking when he will be over again. It’s nearly a year after their first meeting when they do sit the boys down and tell them. Wanda sits with Tommy on her lap, whilst Vision sits on the floor with Billy.

“Boys… I know you both are good friends with Vision.”

“He’s awesome!” Tommy shouts.

Wanda smiles down at him. “He is… What would you say if I told you both that Vision is your dad?”

Billy drops his toy. “What?”

“Vision is your dad.” Wanda smiles wider. “I know this may be a little shocking… and weird… but he wants to be a part of your life, of our lives. He wants to take you to daycare, he wants to make pancakes for you in the morning, and hold you when you feel bad or you get a booboo; just like mommy does.”

Billy looks up to Vision and stretches out his arms to hug Vision. Vision hugs him back, smiling. “Dad!”

“Yes, yes, I’m your dad.” Vision chuckles softly to himself as Tommy scampers off of Wanda’s lap, hugging Vision tightly as well.

——————————

Vision, Wanda, and the boys quickly find a routine. Vision moves in, Wanda and himself quickly get engaged, and they form the family that they always dreamed of. A year passes, the two married, walking their boys to their first day of Kindergarten, each one holding their hands as they walk. They reach the school on the corner, the boys hugging their parents before running into the school, smiles plastered to their faces.

“I can’t believe they’re this old…” Wanda says sadly. Vision squeezes her hand and Wanda looks up. “I’m glad it wasn’t a coincidence.”

“Me too,” Vision smiles softly, leaning down, leaving a soft kiss on her lips.
