Chapter Text
Izuku gave a small sigh, the last few months had seemed to pass by in a blur, and as he got ready to meet with Sir Nighteye, he couldn’t help but reflect on the past few months.
The internship had been an insightful experience into his voice quirk, even if it had been worrying when Yamada-sensei had gotten injured, and they had gone for the next month training and getting better and preparing for the final exams.
Then the final exams occurred, and it was nerve wracking writing the answers and taking the tests. And then the practical had been insane, him and Monoma had been paired up against All Might. They had managed to flee though, which was good.
After the exams were over his class went to the mall together in order to celebrate, and to get supplies for the summer camp that they would be going on. In the mall he ran into his… well brother, Tomura, who smiled and stuck with him. The boy threw an arm over his shoulder, grinning and Izuku just huffed, but leaned into the other boy.
He met back up with his classmates, and it was Uraraka who spoke first, “Midori! Is that your boyfriend?!” she asked.
“Wait, you have a boyfriend?” Ashido asked.
“No!” Izuku protested, waving his hands frantically, shaking his head.
“This is my brother,” he said.
“You have a brother?” Tsu asked.
Tomura had grinned, “Besides for me he has another brother, and a sister,” he said. “We're adopted, but I actually share some blood relation, I’m a cousin, my family died when I was four though so dad took me in,” he said.
His classmates seemed to enjoy getting to know Tomura and asking him if he was a hero, which Tomura answered he wasn’t, that he actually was a gaming youtuber and twitch streamer. Anyways after the mall visit he went home with his brother, and his father welcomed him back. It was so… odd, getting used to having a family that wanted him, liked him.
Eraser seemed to judge them okay, but he saw the hero also thought they were hiding something, but the man hadn’t figured out what yet. Aizawa-sensei had gotten pretty good at his new transformation, now able to take the teenager form for a few hours.
Izuku really enjoyed hanging out with Shouta like that, the man allowing him to call him by his first name when the hero was a teenager.
The two had been walking around outside, Shouta by his side, when they ran into Bakugou. The blonde boy glared at Izuku, “What are you doing here nerd?” the blonde asked with a growl.
“... walking?” Izuku answered with a nervous questioning tone, shrinking back a bit.
Shouta had put a hand on his shoulder, giving a reassuring squeeze. Izuku glanced over to the boy, who seemed to have a smug glint in his eyes, though Izuku didn’t know why. “Who the fuck are you extra?” Bakugou questioned, seemingly to finally notice Shouta.
Izuku was surprised by how Shouta leaned into him a bit as he smiled the wide unbridled grin of his, and said, “I’m Izuku’s best friend ,” he stated, his tone dripping with smugness.
Izuku had immediately flushed at that. Were they best friends? Is that how it worked? Izuku hadn’t really had a best friend since Kacchan… He supposed he was friends with Uraraka, Iida, and his other classmates.
Bakugou had scoffed, but left without saying anything more.
After Bakugou had left, Izuku had asked about Shouta calling them best friends, and got a pat on his head and a simple, “It’s logical in this form to use that label to describe our relationship,” he said.
Which… was good enough he supposed. They did have a complicated relationship. As Eraser the man was his cat… technically his pet, though Eraser didn’t seem to mind. As Aizawa-sensei the man was his teacher, the one who taught him how to tie his tie. Had helped him and was like a father to him, even if Izuku now had a real dad.
After the incident with Bakugou, he and Shouta went to an arcade, with it actually being Shouta’s suggestion. “You need to do something normal and fun,” the older teen had stated, and so they had gone. Izuku had laughed and enjoyed the time with Shouta, with them competing at different games. And he always felt warm when he saw small little smiles on the man’s face.
And after a bit of prodding, he was treated to the sight of Shouta doing Dance Dance Revolution, and the man was amazing . He easily scored one of the top scores at the game. Together at the end they combined their tickets, and Shouta told him he could get whatever he wanted.
“Aww, you two make such a cute couple,” the prize counter attendant said. Izuku squeaked and flushed in reply, shaking his head.
“We’re not a couple,” Shouta had said, a slight grimace coming to his face.
The woman had apologized, and that was that.
Izuku took a few minutes debating over what to get, before he pointed to the large black cat stuffy. Which he promptly gave to Shouta. Shouta huffed at him, but Izuku saw his lips twitch into his smile and he grinned.
With the rest of his tickets he bought a lollipop. The two spent the rest of Shouta’s time walking around, ending with them on the beach. They sat together and watched the sunset, Izuku leaning into the older boy.
He did squeak a bit when the boy suddenly became a cat, falling over a bit, and getting Eraser’s version of laughter as the cat leapt on his chest, tail swaying as he grinned at him. Izuku laughed as well, and took the cat and giant cat stuffie and carried everything home, a large smile on his face.
A few days into summer vacation he was invited to I-Island with All Might, and he and Eraser went with the man, which had been a bit of an adventure, as the island had been attacked and he and his classmates had to stop the villains. Aizawa-sensei had given the students a lecture after though.
Then it was time for the summer camp, which turned out to be a super intense training week, and Izuku fine tuned his quirks a lot. But the training came to an end, and he went back home.
The next couple of weeks passed by fairly normally, with Eraser training in his room while Izuku spent time with his family while at home, though they still had schooling to do, as they were being trained for their ultimate moves in preparation for the provisional license. While other schools waited for third year, U.A. did it for their first years.
Then they had the provisional exams, where most of them passed, though a few, notably Bakugou and Todoroki, failed. So they had to go to remedial training.
Now with their licenses they could work under a hero, and given Izuku still needed to do a lot of work to better One For All he decided that Sir Nighteye would be a good choice.
Which led him to where he was now. Standing in front of Nighteye who really didn’t seem to like him. Regardless, the man passed him, and so Izuku began his internship under him.
Nothing of interest particularly happened during the internships, and Izuku fell into a new routine, even if Nighteyes snide comments hurt a bit, the offhanded way he kept making about Mirio being the next holder.
Aizawa-sensei didn’t seem particularly happy, and told him he should find someone new to intern with, but Izuku wanted to prove that he was a worthy holder for One For All. The months passed, and for the cultural festival class 1-A put on a music show.
More and more the school year passed, and the first year of U.A. came to a startlingly quick end.
It was the first week of April, a week before the second year of U.A. would start, when Izuku’s life would change, and in his opinion, it changed for the worse.
He was at home, and he was alone, the others were all off doing various things. He was planning how to celebrate his first year with Eraser. He knew the man wouldn’t want anything extravagant, and had already gotten a gift that was wrapped. He just wanted to pick a nice place to go to. Like a cat cafe or a coffee shop. Or both in one. Soon though Aizawa came out of his room, “We need to have a talk,” the man said.
Izuku gave a nod, “Alright, what do we need to talk about?” he asked, a bit nervous.
“I’m going to live with Hizashi,” the man stated bluntly.
Izuku stared, unsure if he heard right, “What?”
“You’re in a good family situation now and don’t need me looking after you. I have enough time where it’s no longer needed for me to stay with you in order to be able to train you. I can now do that comfortably at school,” Aizawa said.
“But- But I need you,” Izuku said, tears forming in his eyes.
Aizawa sighed, ruffling Izuku’s hair, “No you don’t kid,” he said, tone gentle, “I’m your teacher, you have to remember that I’m not your friend, nor am I actually your pet. I’m a hero first and foremost, then a teacher. While our relationship was a bit murky because of the situation, I still have my duties to do, and continuing to live with you is interfering with them,” he stated.
“But what will I tell my family?” Izuku asked, even if he didn’t care about that, he didn’t want Aizawa to leave. The man was his closest friend. Sure he might be friends with Uraraka and Iida… but Aizawa… Shouta… Eraser… whichever form the man took, he was his best friend. Izuku felt comfortable around the man. Trusted him .
And now Aizawa was leaving him?
“You can tell them I ran away,” the man stated.
Izuku’s vision was blurry, and he latched onto Aizawa, “P-please d-don’t leave me!” he begged with the dark haired man, chest twisting painfully.
“I’ll still be your teacher kiddo, you’ll still see me everyday, we just won’t be living together, it’s not a big deal.”
But it was a big deal. A honk sounded from outside.
“Looks like Hizashi is here, it’s time for me to go now,” Aizawa said.
Izuku flinched, “You’re l-leaving now? ” he asked, voice anguished.
“No point in delaying it since I already told you, I had texted Hizashi about half an hour ago to come pick me up,” Aizawa said.
Izuku didn’t let go of Aizawa, sobbing, trying to think of something to make the man stay with him. To not leave him. But he couldn’t think of anything, and he just babbled, “P-please!”
Aizawa sighed, and patted his head.
Izuku kept holding and hugging the man desperately, but after a minute Aizawa spoke again, “Hizashi’s waiting for me, kid,” he said, prying Izuku’s hands away.
He stared through watery eyes as the man walked away, leaving through the front door. Watching as Aizawa left, and seeing how he didn’t even look back. Watching as the man who had turned his life for the better left him.
He felt like any breeze would knock him over as he watched Shouta walk away… someone who he truly thought of as a friend… as his best friend . It was like he was five all over again as he watched his best friend leave him behind. The boy didn't notice how he sank to the floor, didn't notice his heaving chest, or the way he couldn’t breathe through his nose. He did notice the difficulty to breath and the wetness on his hands as he looked at the crooked furniture of the living room and turned his blurry vision to the hole in the wall.
He was alone again.
Izuku let the sobs flow as he tried to fill the lonely, silent hole Shouta had left in his heart.
